Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Sedan
I'm a little disappointed with the few tires available in the stock 215/55 R17 size, so I'm thinking of buying new 18x8" rims so that I can put 225/45 R18 or 235/45 R18 tires on them. Has anyone done this? Any advice? I don't want to degrade anything, like the VDC, speedometer accuracy, handling, etc...
Thanks,
John

If you want to keep the stock rims, you can go 235/50R17. Just keep the wheel diameter roughly the same, and be aware that Infiniti officially claims 225 as the max width for the front, but a little wider is probably okay. Check the Wheels and Suspension forum for more tire-based info. Especially the link to the tire size calculator. I think 235/45R18 is another size that's hard to find, but 225/45R18 (and 235/50R17) provides some good performance tire choices.
I haven't done it myself yet, the original tires still have plenty of tread left. But check the Wheels & Suspension forum.. many have already been where you're going.

Re: Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Sedan
I'm in the process of fitting 18's right now. I'm going to run Enkei RPM2's on 245/40-18 kumho MX tires. As a precaution I only ordered 2 wheels and tires, I wanted to see how that width would clear with a 245/40-18" tire and a 45mm offset. Because I did not want to run 35mm offset I special ordered the rims in 45mm offset and I ordered a 5mm H&R wheel spacer just in case I need to bring the wheels 5mm out. Turns out they just barely clear the suspension on the front, but they do and thats all that matters. In the rear, they clear with allot of room to spare. In fact with a 9" wide rear rim matched with a 45mm offset a 265mm rear tire would be no problem. When these tires wear out, I will order Bridgestone S03's and run 245/40-18 in the front and 255/40-18 in the rear.

Re: Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Sedan
John, I went through the whole process a couple months ago. 18" have the best selection of tires. The closest ones to the original diameter would be 235 45 18. I ended up going with the 235 50 18 because I got a great deal on some bridgestones. The diameter was actually increased by .9 of an inch. My heavier chrome rimes and wider tires have affected my mileage and acceleration just enough so its noticable. Although the wider tires are a smoother ride and better handling and the rims look premier. So it was a slight tradeoffs. I'll tell you one thing, it still drives like a G35!

Re: Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Seda
I have 18X8 AT Italia Flash Sports with 235/45-18's and love them. I have Continental Conti Contact 2's (or some such goofy name).
Here is a picture (hope this works)...

Here is another pic that shows the tires filling out the fender a little better...

The above is a pic of crea's ride. The ride shown is lowered with HKS coilovers. I think they look pretty nice.

Re: Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Sedan
The coupe's rims are staggered, the sedan's rims are the same size front-to-back. The sedan's VDC system supposedly cannot handle different-sized front and back tires. I suppose if you could get 2 half sets of coupe rims (say, two sets of front rims, for instance) you could do it.
