Transmission is shot

Alright people,

my ownership nightmare with Infiniti continues. At 39k miles, my 2006 g35x which i bought brand new has a bad transmission.

I fully expect the dealer to try to screw me over and Nissan to throw me to the wolves (back to the dealers) and not stand by this car, the way Honda and Toyota does.

Any suggestions out there?

I cannot explain how completely and utterly pissed off I am...

My mechanic says that it's a manufacturer's defect. He drove it and says that there wasn't anything I did to it. I've maintained it properly, regular oil changes, fluid level checks and the like.

At 39k there is no real maintenance that you needed to do.. Powertrain warranty should fully cover it, I've had to deal with Nissan for a warranty on my Frontier and yes it was a pain. First they wanted to tear down my rear end and if they said that it wasn't covered by warranty they were going to charge me, then the part went on back order for 2 months and they would not provide me with a courtesy car, as they did when I purchased the vehicle when they did warranty work and not provide me with a rental car because at the time I was under 25. So my story isn't completely bad, Nissan stood behind there product, just took them 2 months to fix it.

So my point being, be firm, request a courtesy car or rental during down time. If they deny you, take it to another dealer, don't tell that dealer as I think they can do a blacklist type thing but get a second opinion. If you know a Nissan or Infiniti tech personally talk to them and have them confront the service manager, alot of times I'd start off asking to talk to a tech so I'd know which way to approach.

I had both my engine and transmission replaced under powertrain warranty by Plaza Infiniti here in St. Louis. Each of these replacements went smooth and hassle free. Being an '06 with only 39K miles, you're still under powertrain warranty. Don't be too pissed yet. Your dealer may treat you right, like mine did.

What's the transmission doing? Is your mechanic a Nissan/Infiniti tech or independent?

As stated powertrain warranty should take care of it as long as your car isn't older than 6 years (from in-service date) or have more than 70K miles. You might be asked for service records but only the recommended 30K service calls for a replacement of the transmission fluid. It lists a flush as "optional". I've never heard of a G having a serious tranny issue with that low miles. Hope the problem's easy to fix.

Suggestions for what exactly? Take the car in and let them fix it under warranty. If they won't and you think it's wrong, then bitch. I bet you are a real treat to work with.

I can't believe I am defending a dealer here, but you're jumping off the deep end before they've even looked at it.

Good luck.

alrighty - went to a dealer. they didn't give me a problem at all. new transmission is on order and will be installed. quite happy. it helps that i have low mileage and this particular dealer is the last one to service my car. I will continue to do business with these men. they've been on the up and up....hopefully, all will continue to go well.

anyone have any ideas of what i should check for, just as a preventative maintenance issue - since this extremely unusual thing happened?

I don't know what to suggest. I just had 2 problems within 8 days, unrelated, and apparently neither could be detected before they broke.

A radiator which clogged at 78000 miles (and 7 3/4 years). I had done the 30/60K services which included flushes. Then, 800 miles later, a fan bearing went out, stranding me. Where I'm not anywhere close to an Infiniti dealership. Not even a nissan dealership close.

In my case, if I had driven the car more, these would have been warranty repairs

Well,

transmission was replaced. now the starter doesn't work properly. acceleration is slower and gas consumption is worse than before.

I'm selling this car as soon as I am able. For you dealers out here who troll this site, something is brewing soon. You guys know I post on other sites. I advised all my friends and contacts NOT to buy an Infiniti. Manufacturing construct is shoddy and dealer service is worse.

These dealers hire cheap, inexperienced labor. End result - your car is screwed up and you are out tons of cash! Manufacturer doesn't give a rat's behind.....

Holla if ya hear me!! FIGHT BACK!!!! Don't take this crap. A $40k car should not be this poorly made, or serviced.
