2006 G35 Sedan 6MT - Clutch Return Issues

Hey all,

I've read a lot of posts about the clutch failing to return (weak springs, bleed the system etc etc) - but my clutch returns (disengages) fine. It just doesn't return all the way to rest under certain circumstances (say the last 2" of travel).

If I disengage the clutch slowly it will stop 2" from return but if I just pull my foot off the clutch quickly (the pedal assembly has some momentum) it does return.

It's almost like there is a spring that is fatigued (which is sad my car as 30k miles on it).

Has anyone else had this happen? I haven't crawled under there to do an autopsy yet

Thanks for the quick reply man.

I checked that first thing as a matter of course it looks clean and new; and the level is still good I mean the car really only has 30k (29k and some change) miles on it - it doesn't get driven much.

There are alot of factors involved but two culprits are heat and the clutch fluid. This problem usually happens to me when it's hot outside and my clutch fluid gets dirty. Try using DOT4 brake fluid in the system- you probably have DOT3 in there right now. That usually takes care of the situation for about 2-3 weeks though you may still experience the problem well before that interval. Then just change the fluid again. Theres a quick DIY that utilizes a turkey baster that works very well. Our cars run super hot and the DOT4 fluid has a higher temperature tolerance.

I remember reading somewhere to avoid using DOT5. Can anyone chime in as to why?

Hmmm

Looks like if you go DOT 5 you should go DOT 5.1 - since it's glycol friendly...OK off to bleed the clutch - I was really just hoping I needed a spring or something
