Goodbye G35

Yesterday I traded my 2003 G35 sedan for a 2008 BMW 328i sedan with Sports suspension Certified. Here are some details on the G.

Make:
2003 Infiniti G35 Black Obsidian with Willow interior and sports suspension.

Purchased (used)
03/12/2005 - 44,351 miles

Traded
09/20/2011 - 120,462 miles

I had it for 6 years, 6 months and 8 days (2383 days) and put in 76,111 miles. That's an average of 31.9 miles a day, geez (my drive to work is long). Have nothing but fond memories. The G is a nice car and loved driving it every single day. Never had any major mechanical problem. It's a solid car.

Well since I hit the 120,000 miles, I decided to get a new ride. Wanted to drive something different. I've had the BMW for less than 24 hours now and am trying to get used to a German sports car. Oh yeah, they drive differently. I nearly got an 2008 Audi A6. Another wonderful german car and the ride was really smooth and luxurious. I wanted a sporty one.

Bye G35. Sob Sob.

Good luck. Nice alternative to the G!

Oh and I forgot to mention that 1 day before I was ready to trade my G, my Bose 6 CD player died (just the CD with the dreadful message CD ERROR FO). Tried different methods as people have tried, banging it, trying to scratch it with another CD while pressing the EJECT button, did not work.

Thought the dealer will give me a tough time. But the place where I got the BMW from (Braman BMW Miami) they were really nice to me. Never tried to hustle me, very professional. In fact looked like they did not even care as they would have auctioned my G anyway.

All I could say that morning was "WTF, really, one day before I am ready to trade my G the CD changer dies!!".

Anyway. So long.

Been there, and you got off easy. Sold my wife's '01 Ford Escape earlier this year (Replaced with an '08 XC90). Well 2 days after we "got serious" about looking for new cars, the trans took a dump on us and needed repair/rebuild to the tune of $1800.

Anyway, enjoy the Bimmer. A 3 series is on my short list of candidates for when I replace my G.

[QUOTE=bajracharya;6127601]Yesterday I traded my 2003 G35 sedan for a 2008 BMW 328i sedan with Sports suspension Certified. Here are some details on the G.

Congrats on your new ride...the one thing that stands out on your G35....."Never a problem"....and after driving mind for 2 years the only thing that does not work is the CD, the cassette works fine and is sufficient...I traded in a 1999 BMW conv....bought with 60000 mi. this car was actually falling apart as I drove it home for the first time...rear wheel bearings..what followed was AC, heater, climate control, "F. wheel bearings, leaks, doors conv. top, trunk (seals dried out and shrunk) OK now for the good...NOTHING is as smooth as the BMW engine and 5 speed trans. handling is incredible. great car if you do not mind having your mechanic know you on first name basis...hell I think he even has my credit car number memorized...would I buy another, probably and it would be similar to what you just bought...only a 2 dr coupe with 6MT....good luck.. let us know later down the road how the car is holding up.....thanx

My 2003 G35 when I purchased in 2005 was $21,500 (negotiated price). They gave me $5,500 and my new 2008 328i was $23,777.

BMW total out of the door was $25672.65 (which includes the down payment, tag, tax, trade ... everything).

You'll miss the power from your G. The 328 is smooth, as are all those Bavarian straight 6's, but it's pretty wimpy (200TQ, 230HP). BMW's CPO program is better than most, 2 years and 50K miles, not to exceed 6 years and 100K. Nissan/Infiniti's is better, but it's arguably the best one out there (currently 8 years/120K). Hopefully it will be as solid as the G was for you.

Well I had a 2003 (the first year in that gen) and I had only 260 HP compared to much more in the later years. So I am missing only 30HP for a total 230 HP on the 328i. And yes the ride is smooth.

Those numbers weren't really correct for the G. They were closer to the 280/270 figures from 05-06. And it's not the HP you'll miss, it's the torque. 260/270 down to 200 is quite noticeable off the line. I drove a 328 and wondered why they castrated it so much. The 2006 was the last year of the 330i, but they bumped up the output to 255/220. That's still a far cry from the 335i's 300/300, but they thought that keeping the 328i, which has the same 3.0 litre engine as the 330i, at those numbers would take away from 335i sales.

Anyhoo, part of me is jealouse 'cuz I love how a BMW drives, part of me is glad I'll still see 328's in my G's rearview mirror. Good luck.

No I stand by my numbers. The 2003 G35 sedan had only 260 HP/260 tourque while the coupe had 280 hp/270 t. Yes I will miss the torque on the 328 (230 hp/200 T)
