Pics would help because I don't have anything similar on my 05. I am guessing you have an 03-04, right? If it is like Mercedes or BMW, it might be a hole for towing. If it is, there should be a bolt about 8-12 inches long with a hole on the end with your jack. This is screwed into the frame through the hole to avoid damage to the suspension when the car is towed.

^It sounds like he's talking about the left side of his rear bumper, not the front bumper.

Yes your right its the rear bumper on the left. Sorry I said back left rear would have been better name. The only thing I can think of is for a camera but it doesn't even have a nav in it? I'll try and upload a pic.

I know there is one in the front. I saw one in the rear of a 2002 MBZ S430 and thought it might be the same. The tow guy took out the above mentioned bolt, removed a cover and screwed the bolt into the frame. I thought this might be similar.

It also might be a cutout for a rear fog light for other markets.

Won't be sure till we see pics.

What year is your car? The only small hole on a Sedan's rear bumper is for the trunk release button, which is for an 05-06. Maybe you have an 05-06 rear on your 03-04 and the hole wasn't filled it?

So that is a sensor for a trunk release from your key flob? I guess a feature that the 03's don't have.

^Correct. 03/04s didn't have the trunk release bumper. Sounds like your car had a 05/06 bumper installed as I suspect. Pics of your bumper, particularly where the bumper meets the quarter panel (I'd like to see if the mudguards are from an 03/04 or 05/06).

Yeah it sounds like it had the bumper replaced with an 05-06 one.

Why threads like this without pics exist is beyond me.
