I would buy some stock wheels (or use the ones you have now and get new/other ones in the spring) with the winter tires... saves you $ and hassle from switching it...

personally, I use Hankook Winter iPike W409.. these were about $110 each for stock 215/55/17 size.. they've been great for 4 seasons (6 months each)... and this will be my 5th season.. but i can tell the winter compound is finally beginning to wear out (still good), but i'll probably just keep these on when I install them this season and let them run out in the summer or so.. (still about 60% thread left..)

i know everyone will promote blizzaks.. but i feel like any winter tire will get the job done MUCH better than all-season tire

Continental makes good sets of winter tires as well. They'll be just a little bit cheaper than blizzaks.

I have never have had any problems with all season tires on my AWD sedan. I live at the top of a 12% grade hill and there were only two times that I could not get up my hill last winter, and it was only because there was 10+ inches of snow

^Have you driven a G with snow tires? Try it some time and your definition of 'good' will change to great.

I have continental extreme wintercontacts on my G and they are phenomenal. Makes my RWD drive like an AWD. I love them. Car literally drives like there isnt any snow on the road.

I have not driven my G with snow tires, but then again I have no real justifiable need for snow tires. Just making a comment that for 99% of the time I have found that the AWD on all season tires will suffice. It may not be the absolute highest performance solution but I thought I would just tell him to evaluate whether or not he actually needs them.

I'm probably getting a set of those, since they're supposed to be a little nicer on clear road than Blizzaks.

They ride great on the road for snow tires and still have plenty of handling and grip.

Then in the deep snow....

For anyone doubting, I drove janiks car last year through the snow. Being the first "rwd" car I have driven in the snow.

With the snow tires, I was nothing short of amazed at how controlled and responsive his car was through the snow. The tires were so predictable on what they were going to do based on what you wanted them to do it wasn't even funny.

I would not hesitate for a split second to drive a rwd car through the winter months with snow tires.
