Window Tinting

I am getting my windows tinted soon and i was advised by the guy at the shop to get 35% in the fronts and 20% in the back, I live in NY so technically any tint is illegal but that obviously doesn't stop anyone. My questions is how dark is 35% (pictures please if anyone has it) and it it worth it to maybe go darker in the front?

Here in California you can go as low as 3% (limo tint) in the rear windows (2 back doors and rear window) and by law no tint in the driver/passanger and windshield. I believe 35% is right around factory tint. I have had my G sedan for almost 7 months, tint is about 20% all around, and havent had any problems with police...it really depends on officer discretion.

Go with 20%, I have 35% and it's a little light. 20% is perfect, in my opinion.

depends on the color of your interior, a black interior will make the tints look even darker. iirc, nj and ny tint laws are the same which in that case any tint is allowed in the back and rear windows, it's only the front that doesn't allow tints.

with that said, are you doing tints for purely functional or aesthetics? on my other car i have 50% all around which is actually see through on a sunny day, but still blocks the sun out and adds a little privacy at night or cloudy days. i did this after having to deal with numerous tickets on my previous car which was 35% all around. 50% gives an oem look with slight darkness while having the functional benefits of tinting.

if you're doing it purely for looks, i say go 35% all around (especially if you have black already). and if you ever suspect leo's or get pulled over, pull your front 2 windows down and hope he/she didn't notice. the days of limo tint or super dark are played out imo.

5% rears 35% fronts...I personally would not recommend going darker then 35% in fronts because night time driving gets too dark

Rainy/Overcast days

nighttime

sunny day (best i could find)

Here's my G, 35% on the sides and rear window, with black interior. It's easy enough to see through at night or in bad weather. Not too dark to attract attention either.

I disagree with 5% being played out. Some ppl dont like being seen at all and have full privacy. Nothing like being able to see ppl but they cant see you

I would be curious to see 35% on lighter interior (willow/wheat) compared to darker interior.

Tint pics are useless, You can make virtually any % tint (except really dark ones) look really dark or really bright.
