Shifting Issue (Automatic transmission)

Hello all,

Not sure if this is posted elsewhere or not but I have a issue with my shifter. I have a 06 Sedan with around 98,000 miles. When I turn the car on, I have to wait about 30 seconds before the shifter will unlock so I can put the car in reverse or drive, I am not sure why it does this but its very annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions?

may seem like a silly question - but are you applying brake in the first 30 seconds?

Yes I am. Actually what is weird is that if I apply the brake and let go, and then apply the brake again the shifter will go into reverse or drive. Not sure what the issue could be

possible faulty shift lock relay or solenoid?

There's a section in the FSM that has a series of trouble shooting procedures - it's probably easiest to have a dealer check it out.

Could be a bad brake switch too. See if some can stand in the back and see if thebrake lights are on when you start the car or have the shift problem. If they r on. Then iys the solenoid.
