Like tittle says my belts need replacing.. Whats the best belts OEM or Dayco ? Or any other brand ?

 

Go OEM people have used some after market belts and they squeek

I bought one from Advance and put it on. Went back and fourth tightening it becasue there isnt a spring loaded tensioner on these cars. You don't want the belt too loose or it'll squeal, but if you over tighten the belt you could damage your idlers and other accessories. Anyway I got mine as tight as I felt comfortable with and after much frustration I ended up taking it to a shop to adjust the tension. Now it still squals at start up here and there when it's cold. I'd go with OEM or at least a Good Year, or Gates belt put it on and if needed have a shop adjust the tension unless you have access to that weird belt tension gauge device.

I'm hoping that they won't need a lot of adjustment to keep them squeal free.

 

I went with Dayco few weeks ago and did pretty good for me. no squeals or grinds but OEM is always better

 

I've always heard very good things about Dayco belts. Never had a problem with one personally.

 

Not sure about Dayco, I have used other non-oem belts on other cars and they seem to stretch more than stock. If the car used a auto tensioner for the belt(s) would be fine with non-oem, but cars like the G that have adjustable tensioners I would stick with stock other wise the belt might require readjustment in the future.

 

Update. I went ahead and order the belts from infiniti and installed them. Everything went well but after i installed them in the morning i get a squeak and ever sense i installed the new belts wen i open the hood i smell something weird like maybe belt burning. I don't have a belt tension gauge. But i notice that this belts do have to be pretty tight. I Order a gauge hopefully wen it comes in that will help. It seems that this car is very picky about how tight the belt is cause i have adjusted and adjusted and still squeak and smell. ANY IDEAS.... ?

 

I'm running both NAPA belts. Not bad. Quality seems good, no sqealing or anything.

 

No problems with my Dayco...take off your useless pulley and run a 1" shorter than stock Dayco belt.

 

Like some cars you will need to readjust the belt after it's broken in. Just because it stretches. I actually did mine this past weekend and the noise is gone. There shouldn't be any smell unless you sprayed it with some chemicals to make the noise go away temporarily. Did you make sure the belt is on all the way and not off the ridges? It could be off and its rubbing against something causing it to give a smell.

 

Gates is the vendor for MOST OEM's out there. Just a FYI.

I have the gates V belt, one inch shorter with a pulley delete. No issues, no squeals. Squeals happen because of lack of friction the belt has on the pulleys, like slipping. So you need to tighten them up a little more.

 

Just know that after a few hundred miles of driving you'll have to retighten most belts. Not sure what they do at the factory, but I don't have a tension gauge and have to retighten every time on cars without auto tensioners.

 

I went with Dayco and have had no problems. Been about 20,000 miles now, no squeaks, no issues.
