Keep or sell? Need your opinions...

So my dilemma is that I am just barely making the payments for my car and insurance every month. I really love it (04 DP sedan) and want to keep it but idk if it is worth it in the long run since I still owe about half of what its worth. Paying it off has priority over mods so it is stock except for subs tint and ztube.
I have been looking at other cars including the g35 coupe cuz if I were to sell I would like to have a manual and MT sedans are so hard to come by. I have also been looking at s2000s but idk what it would be like to drop from the comfort of our cars to a tiny car like that..even tho it would be tons of fun to drive...not like ours aren't...it would just be a different experience.

So what do you guys think? Keep the G and just keep chipping away at the loan or sell and put the difference down on another car and decrease the monthly if I get another loan?

If you plan on getting another loan for another car just keep the g.

However, if you are struggling to make payments then maybe sell and buy a car outright and save for a while.

Well if I get another car with another loan it wouldn't be anything close to what I have to pay right now on my car since I'm going to be putting down money and spreading the loan over a long time. If that makes sense.

If you are going with another loan and spreading it over a long time. Why dont you refi for a longer term.

Or pay down the loan as much as you can now. Interest is a killer

^dont really have extra money at the moment to throw down and take a chunk out of the loan

i guess i was so caught up with the idea of selling it that i never thought of way i could keep it. Do most credit unions let you refinance a loan or does it differ from one credit union to another?

another point i was gonna make is that i am going to be transferring to a 4year college next fall and so having a sedan is something that wont really be necessary since i will probably only use it for long trips to come back home in which something smaller would be fine. now it sounds like i need to make a pros and cons list. haha.

if you can barely afford one car, why try to afford another car...

You gotta live within your means!

Keep the car, pay off the loan, refi @ a lower rate longer term if you must. This is your best bet.

no idea. everyone is saying keep it cuz its my only choice but i still dont feel like it is. Here's my thinking....if i sell mine for lets say 13000 and pay off the remaining ~7000 that leaves me with ~6000 to put down on maybe an s2000 that costs lets say 10000. the loan itself will be lower and i can get that term increased so the monthly is low and going from a sedan to a coupe wont increase my insurance that much since i have been driving for 5 years and have a clean record. this seems like a valid option to me. i know most of you are older than i am so does this make any sense at all or am i just dreaming that all of this is a possibility?

i dont mind being shot down now cuz i will still have my car. i just dont want to rush and make a dumb decision when i can so easily refer to all of you guys and get your opinions.

I'm 21 and I think you should keep your g.

What do you do with your car? The only reason I would sell a g sedan for a s2000 was if I wanted a track car. There is no way I would drive one all the time.

It's almost always more expensive to sell your current car and buy another one. If your car is in good shape now, keep it. Saving 3k on a loan and making the term longer will only mean you are going to end up paying more interest. Just keep your loan now and pay it off as fast as possible.

I waited to buy my car for about 10 months, partially because I couldn't afford what I really wanted at the time, also I am very picky. I waited and got pretty much exactly what I wanted and paid cash...

My vote is to again keep your g35

I just daily my car. Isn't that great on gas but I don't mind that. Why wouldnt you daily a s2k? I am just saying s2k cuz it still has a lot of power and I have always wanted a manual and they are cheaper than g35 coupes of the same years and mileages.

You definitely make some good points though and it would make the most sense to just keep it and maybe after it is all paid off and i still want to get a car with a manual i could try to do a straight trade or something like that.

what do others think???

LOL... have you posted your car up for $13000 yet? See what your car is worth.

Coupes and sedan insurance are different, pending on age and etc, you can see almost an increase of 35% more on a coupe. Statistics show coupes get into more accidents then sedans.

As much as i would love a s2k, they just aren't great DD cars for me, maybe if i lived in cali. Powerband on them isn't where i would want it.

In most cases cars are money pits. Every now and then you get lucky like buy a used car for $6000, drive it for 2 years and sell it for $6500. But in most cases you just lose.

We cant force you to do anything, in the end its what you want. Get the s2k if thats what you want. Being happy is priceless. As i'm learning that at the age of 25.

I've kbb'd it for private party and it would be close to 14000 cuz it only has 592XX miles on it. Then again everytime i check it it goes up or down. The value of our cars peaked over summer and i once got it valued at 15500 on kbb. Doubt i wouldve got any hits if i had listed it for that much.

well i mentioned to my insurance agent about getting a quote for an ap1 s2k and it was only a coupe hundred more than what i am paying now for 6 months.

well i do live in Cali. Haha. and i will be moving away from home so the car will be used for mostly long trips back and forth.

i understand that it is my decision in the end but i just wanted to see what all of you thought since i know some of you have probably thought about the same types of things when u were my age and i would like to know what some of you did and if you have had any regrets.
