Debating if I should sell the G.

I have an 03 OB sedan with 147k kilometers. I love her. Got her in summer of 2010. She was well maintained with regular servicing and has been problem free since day 1.

Reasons why I'm considering getting rid of her:

1. Gas is ridiculous. I can barely 400km on a full tank.

2. I'm a student. Although I can afford the car and all the expenses, is it a smart investment? Do I really need a luxury vehicle at such a young age? (I'm 20)

3. Shes getting old. She's been problem free since i got her. I've only had to do regular maintenance work (oil change, filter, spark plugs etc.). But I'm well aware of common problems for this car (radio unit, bad seat motors etc). They are bound to happen and I'll end up having to drop money to fix them.

I'm trying to be smart with my money. My question is: will there be a bigger return on investment if I sell her and buy something more economical, like a honda accord?

What do you guys think? I know the decision is ultimately up to me, but I'd like to hear your inputs. :)

The IMPORTANT question is how much do you like the car? the answer to that will influence your position to ur financial spendings for the car.

in other words if you REALLY love the car you wouldnt mind the gas mileage or the maintenance involved. Im 21 and I LOVE my G also. I also thought gas mileage would be better when I first got the car but since I really love this car I dont mind paying out the *** for gas.

Personally I wouldnt drive an Accord or other econ boxes over my G but if the time comes where I need to sell the car due to money problems then I might have to do it. Its like: do you want to survive or own a G?

Cars come and go. You're young. Sell it and focus on school. Get a commuting car that's economic. Once you graduate, you will be able to get something newer and better hopefully. JMO

You'll have potential problems with any car. Who knows if you will need a transmission after you buy a Honda Accord, for example. You have seen the reliability with your G35 so far and already know what to expect. Stay in school, don't modify the car, and save for more maintenance. Are problems bound to happen? Not necessarily. Will you have to put another thousand dollars into your next used car because the previous owner didn't take care of it, yes!

There are plenty of ways to hypermile a G35..

i'm only 19 and i have a G, it has about 132kms on it, i love the car and ye it's a bit pricey but thats what i save money for, i work enough to pay for the G and do other things and go to university.

personally, i love the G and would never wanna get rid of it, only thing i'd do is upgrade to a 07 or 08 G :D

It's all about what you can afford and what makes sense. Yes the gas mileage is pretty dismal, especially in the winter months, but if you would be losing money when you sell her it would be more cost effective to hold on for another year or two. The G is a solid car with very few mechanical issues and rather inexpensive parts. The only factor that can damage your wallet is the mod bug. smh :NOOO:

Bro it sounds like you could be possibly overthinking the situation if it's not broke don't fix it.
You will absolutely not be satisfied with any small economy car. If you thinking of replacing the G.
Replace it with something reliable .........like a G.

Cars are money pits no matter what it is. (insurance, gas, tires, oil etc etc) But all cars have their expenses. No you don't need a luxury car at your age. It will just spoil you later on.

LMAO...I've already had "the talk" with my wife on why I went with the G vs. the M, I had to explain that there are "stages" in life and if I get an M right now, then 10-15 years down the road when my kids are outta the house, where will I go?....I always have wanted a Maserati though :driving:

Point being, get your ducks in a row first. Get your degree, land a nice-paying job, and then spoil yourself with the fruits of your labor!

Brother, I'm 22 and I drove econoboxes before I bought the G. I can guarantee that you will not be happy in an econobox. The gas mileage is typical but you should get a bit more than 400kms/ tank.

You don't NEED a luxury car at a young age but why not have one. You've done alright thus far, keep it going. You already know what to expect with your car, and that piece of mind should be enough to keep the car.

But if you're hell-bent on getting rid of it, then I'd suggest getting a G20 instead. This way. If you're in the GTA, shoot me a PM, I'll get you a deal on a car.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm keeping the G in the meantime. We'll see what happens as summer approaches.

I don't think the accord is that bad (2003+). If you get it fully loaded with leather (quite common in my area), then it can be just as comfortable as the G. But I did some research, it turns out I wont be saving that much money trading in for an accord since it's fuel econ isn't that great either for both the 4 and 6 cyl.

Another thing to think about: will you have to add cash to change cars? Even a couple thousand bucks will cover a lot of the mileage differential.

You need to start accelerating slower out of lights and stop lights.

I always get 18.5-21.0mpg driving in NYC traffic.

But im not saying, I drive it like a grandma all the time, after stressful day at work, I dont mind opening her up and doing that once in a while doesn't really make that big of a difference.

Wait...The G is a luxury car?

of course my horse..dont hate on the G haha
