HR Style Y Pipe Diameter?

I'd like to replace the Y pipe in my sedan for a little bit more aggressive sound. I've been looking at the Megan Racing and the M2 Y pipes, however the tubing diameter on the two symmetrical legs of the "Y" is 2.5", while the stock is ~2". Also, the merge comes out at 3", whereas the stock exhaust is closer to 2.25" or 2.5". I may get a coupe midpipe or do a custom midpipe + magnaflow "pre-muffler" in the future (probably something like this: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=12219 ), but will the turbulence from one of these Y pipes cause a loss of power due to the mismatched diameters? Would I be better off going with a true HR Y pipe from a G instead of one of these aftermarket ones?

Thanks!

Nice! I've spent a lot of the night doing research, but it seems like everyone has upgraded the rest of their exhaust so they don't have to deal with the mismatched diameters at all. I'm just not in the market to replace the final muffler for $$$ at this time but want to buy some upgrades

I put the midpipe on first and sound got a little deeper but i couldn't notice the change til i got on the gas mid-high rpm's...about a week later the y-pipe went on and i felt the difference getting on the gas a little sooner. I think it was only 40 bucks too one hell of a deal

These are the two I'm looking at - Megan Racing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Megan-Racing...item3a6bf5ff93

or M2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/03-06-Nissan...ht_3263wt_1037

Any consensus on which is better? Probably not going to notice much of a difference either way, I'm guessing.

Thanks for the quick help. Gotta replace some clunky front suspension bushings first, but will be adding a Y pipe in the near future!

Isn't this more along the lines of the stock DE pipe though? It is not really designed like the HR-Y IMO. I thought the majority of the reason of changing pipes was to better the "flow"

Because the HR design is still not optimum - it's closer than the DE, but these new designs from XX manufacturer use larger diameter tubing, often weighing less than the original, and are freer flowing, yet.

AND! They're shiny

choose the ypipe that fits the outlet diameter of your cats (oem or highflow) and inlet diameter of your mid pipe (oem or not). there is only one 2.5in\2.5out Y pipe (www.exhaustdepot.com) Mitch match pipes cause rasp!!! If you have oem cats and plan on running oem coupe mid pipe, get the HR y pipe
