Transmission Fluid HELP

I need some help. First don't laugh even though there may be some humor to be found in this

We attempted to change my engine oil today and didn't realize on a 2004 G35X the Oil Drain bolt is near the Oil Filter hidden by the cover. Well we apparently drained my transmission fluid, and here's how we noticed - When we thought we were done, I put the car in reverse to take off the ramps. Well my car didn't go in reverse and I assume that's because of no tranny fluid.

I found the dip stick for the tranny fluid, is it as easy as filling her back up tomorrow? I sure hope so. Please provide any feedback if possible. I don't want to have to pay a mechanic to fix if I can do my self. I know there is specific ATF required, and there are compatible types at advanced auto.

Oh, and yes I need to drain all the extra oil. What a mess!

You have to wait for the dealer to open Monday. You need j matic fluid and I think it costs around $13/qt. You'll probably need 3 qts. You want to get the fluid to the first mark on the COLD range. Drive the car for about 10 miles and adj the fluid level to the top mark on the HOT range. It goes in the dipstick tube just like you said.

^^ Matic J has been updated to Matic S... and you will need about 4 quarts.

Holy moley. Didnt you notice the smell or color of the trans fluid was different then the engine oil? and then you put more engine oil in?

Maybe you better take it to the mechanic before your windshield washer is full of trans fluid.

ideally you should measure how much trans fluid was drained to give you a better idea of how much to put in. in my experience 2-4 litres of fluid can be drained and you don't want to overfill the trans. also remember to pick up a crush washer for the drain bolt when at the dealership.

FYI you can also find matic -s @ a nissan dealership usually cheaper than Infiniti

Question: Am I understanding this correct you have approx 10 qts of oil in your engine ? and you cranked it and attempted to put the trans in reverse running 3-4 qts low ?

Successfully changed the oil and added transmission fluid today. I went with Valvoline ATF which said was compatible with Matic J & S. Runs fine now. Thanks everyone!

How long did you run the engine after overfilling the oil? Have you noticed any oil leaks or other problems since?

There was a reason why we were mentioning matic S but you should be ok. If you notice any issues your going to need a full fluid exchange to get rid of the Valvoline.

Hope you learned your lesson, btw Google what your about to do there are tons of videos and guides to help you

Valvoline is fine. Been running it in my transmission for almost 2 years and almost 30k miles. Everything seems to be normal.

I'll try Castrol multi vehicle import next.

valvoline maxlife is a good fluid.

Castrol import ATF is another one that is good. Remember nissan doesn't make their own ATF. They get it from a vendor like castrol, mobil, valvoline. With a nissan emblem on their they have to mark it up. Only the ones under warranty should worry about getting OEM fluids.

Do you only use nissan ester engine oil? Or nissan brake fluid. ATF would be no different.
