Weird creaking/grinding noise in rear seat/cabin area
Hi guys,
Lately I've been hearing some creaking/grinding noise coming from the rear of the car (either rear seats or trunk?). It's especially prominent when I'm driving *slow* and especially when making turns in parking lots or going over bumps. It's less present when I drive fast and in a straight line.
I researched online and people have said that it's a common problem in G35s and that it's a loose bolt somewhere between the rear seat and the trunk.
I want to take the G to my local car shop to get it fixed, but I want to be able to be more specific with the problem that I'd ask them to fix rather than having them look for it and possibly get it wrong.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
And no, my car is out of warranty so I'm hesitant to take it to Infiniti dealership.
Thanks, guys!

The bottom of the seats pulls right up... After that it's a 14 mm socket for the bolts that hold down the backing in place. After that it's a 10mm socket to tighten the loose bolts. It's very easy to fix!

Did you have to remove the center arm rest? Or is it just the two bottoms and back rests? So afraid that I'm going to break something...
i promise u wont break anything. the bottom piece comes off as one piece, the rest which supports your back unbolts into 3 pieces basically when you take the bottom piece everything else is self explanatory. dont be afraid. if you need more help pm ur phone number and i will text u pics. by any chance are you in florida?
Hidy gang. I've come upon this thread looking to solve my own creak. I've got the seats out. At this point, the center arm rest is still in place as is the textile piece that I assume covers the x-brace. Before I rip out those little black pop rivets that hold the textile in place, I wanted to make sure that I need to & that I'm in the right place.
Anyone wish to confirm? Any specific helpful instructions for me at this point?
I appreciate it.

Ok, thanks. I went ahead and tried gently removing the push pins; broke one in the process, so I guess not gently enough. Anyhow, x-brace seemed totally tight.
Actually, in the day or so since I removed the seats & have been driving around without them, it seems my creak is gone. At first I thought that maybe it was that the road noise is so much louder without the rear seats in, but now I'm no so sure. I think I'll spray some silicone on the places where the seats connect to the body when I re-install.
My squeak -- for documentary purposes, allow me to give a recap to anyone who is interested. I had my car "detailed" (crappy job, hence quotation marks) & thereafter my car had a squeak. Sounded like maybe from around the trunk area. I discovered with some trial & error that if I had the backup trunk release wire pulled taught, the creak went away. I thought that it was the cable scraping against my trunk lid -- sound matched my perception of this. Against the advice of others on this board, I cut the cable. Much to my surprise, it didn't cure the problem. I subsequently discovered that if I have the trunk open (popped but closed), the squeak wasn't there. Further research on this forum led me to believe that the X-Brace was the most likely culprit. At this point, I haven't ~done~ anything to fix the infernal creak, but I don't hear it with my rear seats out. I guess I'll lube up the joints & put my seats back in and hope for the best. But I've read some other possible causes at this point (defective rear window bolts?), so we'll see if my problem is now in check or if I need to did deeper.

I have the same issue. Creak on the driverside rear. I tightened the X bolts and its still there. I hear it mostly on small bumps. I think I'm take out the back seats and ride around. I saw in an old post it maybe a weld joint and you need to expoy the void space.
