Brake fade but only at higher speeds
Brake fade but only at higher speeds
Hi all
I have a 2005 g35x and for now its bone stock other than new rotors. I recently did a brake job and decided to try the ate rotors and i used wagner premium pads. I'm a mechanic and have done lots of brakes before and have never encountered a problem like this.
The pedal is a little soft but the brakes work very well in everyday driving situation. I do find that these work better once they have a little heat in them. However the issue i'm having is that if i apply the brakes firmly from any kind of speed, ie over 50 miles an hour the master feels as though is bypassing and you really have to put your foot down to get any kind of stopping power.
Has anyone else experienced this? I've read a lot of threads about soft pedal issues and it seems that nobody has really nailed down the problem. One guy had his callipers reversed. don't how he managed that one. And others are claiming air in the lines. well I know how to bleed brakes. Had the battery neg removed and did the the cross pattern while bleeding. Did have a fair bit of debris or contamination in the fluid and made sure to bleed till the fluid was nice and clean. My only real guess is bulging brake line wich i have found no evidence to support that or bypassing master. I have no leaks at any calliper.
i would really appreciate and experience you guys might have on the subect cause this is a major problem. Could it just be crappy brake components? also i was under the impression that 05s and up had upgraded 2 piston callipers and mine apprear to be large singles. dont know what to think of that either.
should i just rebuild my master? is there a rebuild kit for the x sedan?
anyway any help would be greatly aprreciated.

My 05x with stock breaks will stop on a dime at any speed. The OEM pads are one of the best out there. I put wagner pads on my wife's Toyota Sienna and notice they are not nearly as good as OEM. They feel like mush. I really have to push a lot harder on the pedal to stop. I don't like them at all. I would try going back to stock pads. If that doesn't work then at least you know you have another problem.
My problem with stock brakes (not breaks) on a 2004 G35x was exactly that: it ALWAYS wanted to stop on a dime. The brakes were far too touchy and could not be modulated to make smooth stops. Hawk pads solved that very nicely. Now I can stop smoothly by pressing softly, or by pressing harder can stop with so much force that ABS is activated.
