Rotten Egg Smell - Catalytic Converters?

I get this rotten egg smell about a minute after I floor it. If i rev it up to 5,000 it doesn't smell, ONLY under WOT. I've looked around and seen that it might be the cats. The car has 100k and I've already replaced a hole in the exhaust last summer. A Maxima passed me about a month ago and I could smell his exhaust and it smelled the same. If the new Maxima had stainless exhaust then his cats weren't bad so is it really my cats that are producing this smell?

If I need to replace the cats I'll probably go with high flow ones but I don't want the exhaust any louder. Any recommendations?

That's your exhaust. Try tightening gaskets.

I had that happen to me with a Malibu. The wiper fluid ran out, I was out of fluid & put water in the tank. A couple days later I smelled rotten eggs & could not figure out where it was coming from. I used the wipers & the smell was 10's worse! I went to the car wash, pushed the button until all the nasty water was out. Got the car wash & went straight to Pep Boys for some wiper fluid. Lesson learned!

Yeah It might be your cats.

When I first got my G, like anybody else, I went WOT within 5 mins of driving it off the lot LOL.

I smelled a burnt rubbery smell similar to rotten eggs. It only happened after hard driving and I didnt know why. Until one day I decided to get test pipes then the smell was gone.

but when you get test pipes, another type of smell will start to annoy you.

yep i have smelled it a handful of times, but esp noticed when I first got the car and floored it for the first time. It has to do with the cats and the gas you have in the car at the time.

I floored it the other day and no smell! I think it smelled before because I left it in first and gunned it, thinking it would shift on its own like a BMW, Lexus or most other cars. Instead it just pinned itself at 69-7000rpm until I shifted it...whoops
