??'s regarding 06 G35 and extended warranty

Hello Everybody!

This weekend i purchased an 06 G35 Sedan. w/ 82k miles.

In negotiating price, i was able to get my payment down $330/mo w/o a warranty.

Then i went to the finance department and they tried selling a 3yr/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty. for $2100. i asked what it would bring my payment to. they said $380. I asked what if I put an additional $500 down? they told me $370. I said i have to take it to mechanic and have them check it out. they said, no problem, but i need to tell them what i want to do by today.

He called me this morning. and told me with an additional $500 out of pocket, he can get my payment to $340/mo.

Im willing to pay that mo. payment, but not really excited about dropping another $500.

My question is, what are you guys' thoughts on this idea? do you think its worth the $500 out of pocket? it covers everything except for normal wear and tear.

Over the weekend, i was parked in an upward incline. started the engine without my foot on the break, the "SLIP" light came on and i had absolutely no power at all. turned off and back on, everything is fine but the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light is now on ever since.

I tried researching it, but the best i can find is that it might be a transmission problem. I called the dealership and they said to bring it in and they will fix it. (assuming they are only going to turn the light off regardless of the problem)

Does anybody happen to have a better idea of what that may be from? is it in fact transmission? if so? the warranty is worth it? right?

thoughts? suggestions?

any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

There's 2 types of warranty you can get. I just recent purchased an 05 Sedan earlier this month with a similar monthly payment.

My dealership offered a "Powertrain only" or a "Comprehensive" warranty.

A powertrain warranty covers the moving parts of the engine, transmission, driveshaft and axles. This warranty usually does not cover parts added to the engine like electronics. A breakdown that would be covered under this warranty is rare, but the repairs would be expensive. A comprehensive warranty, often called "bumper-to-bumper," covers all the part of the car with only a few exclusions like tire wear and windshield wipers.

If you are going to get a warranty, make sure its a Comprehensive warranty or the typical "Bumper-to-bumper" warranty to ensure that mostly everything is covered.

If not, then dont get it.

My 2 cents.

Extended warranty is never a "bumper to bumper" coverage regardless who is underwriting it. There are a lot of exclusions that the warranty does not cover. Save that money for repairs/maintenace in the future.

hit up courtney from scottsdale infiniti for the best possible price quote if you can afford it without having to add it on to your monthly.
