Key fob question

I bought an uncut key fob off of eBay that just came in the mail. My question is that I'm wondering of its possibly to toss the key blank to the side and use my existing key in the new fob and get rid of my old fob that isn't working....or do the key and fob have to be used together?

I tried the steps to reprogram the fob and I've struggled with it...not sure if that's what the issue is.

Do you mean an Intelligent Key fob with it's hidden key? I don't think the "chip" in the physical key is inked to a specific fob, if that's what you're asking. In other words, I think you should be able to use your already cut key with the new fob. But you may need to "register" both new fob and old key at the same time so the car responds to both.

There may be a way for the "user" to do that but the easiest might be the dealer or an independent garage that has a Consult-II rig...

^ Yep pretty much

If it is the Intelligent key, you need to have it programmed, I just had it done for $70 dealer wanted 100
but said it it did not work I would have to pay..yea bs

You can keep your already cut key and just program the FOB, when they program the FOBs everything gets erased so you need to bring all the remotes with you.

So if I have an older unintelligent key fob for my car like this:

Can I buy a smart key like this and use it just for its standard functions?:

The reason being, is that I simply really like the look of the newer key fob even though my car would not be able to use it for its smart capabilities.

Make sure you get the Remote with FCC ID:KBRTN001
IC: 2111B-TN001

Only solder the battery holder

Not for the Intelligent key

For the other one, I think you can by some method of putting the key into the ignition like 10 times and then pushing a button on the remote, your going to have to look that up.

Lol I tried that a bunch of times on Friday. Guess that's why it didn't work. Thanks for the heads up.
