My 05 X has one. I also thought it was a tranny cooler. Learn something new every day.

The tranny cooler is the two lines that go on the bottom of the radiator, the X brings an air cooled system for the transmission

At least for 2005/2006:

The cars that come with 18" rims get a cooler.

The cars with 17's do not get a cooler.

I believe this is found in the Infiniti factory service manual.

The lines running to the PS cooler seems like a good place for a proper PS flush.
Which one's the return hose?

My 2004 x has one. Its currently leaking and I went to the junk yard to find a replacement. They have 4 2003-05 G35 and 1 2004 x. The only car that had the lines and cooler was the X.

Id assume this is standard and all X models for sure

Same car, same report; AWD with cooler. Maybe this is what was mistakenly referred to as the center hole on the AWD bumper being there to cool the transfer case?? Maybe they mistook this cooler for tranny cooler and called it transfer case? Seems unlikely it would make any appreciable difference since this cooler is getting the same air as the radiator it is mounted in front of.

But the cooler is off to the side, directly behind one of the bumper grills. I'm sure it gets plenty of air there.

I still challenge the thought that the center vent on the AWD is for the Xfer case, or extra air in general considering right behind is is the radiator support

No disagreement here. I'm just trying to understand how those types of misinformation get started.

Sorry for the bump, but 06 5at sedan base model, looks like no PS cooler. I'll check closer when I pull the bottom skid tray off for the oil change.

Mine doesn't have a power steering cooler. I wonder may be that's the reason the rack and pinion leaked so early in its life? too much heat?

04.5 G35 Sedan 5AT
My 2005 Sedan 5AT w/ sport suspension package and vlsd had one.
My 2004.5 Sedan 5AT base model (no options, cloth int) does NOT have a factory P/S cooler. My rack did 'weep' a little, I exchanged the fluid 3x with Valvoline Dex/Merc fluid (red bottle) + a few ounces of Lucas 'transmission fix' and it has slowed the weep to practically non existent.
I plan to add a Derale dual circuit cooler to have P/S & ATF cooling in the coming months. Still collecting parts
