2003 G35 Headlight Restoration

The headlight on my G are horrible. They are foggy and yellow. I bought a headlight restoration kit and put it on and it did nothing. I saw videos on youtube of people using sand paper on their headlight and it making it a lot better. I did that exact thing and it still didnt work. Does anyone know how I can make my plastic, yellow, foggy headlights look new again?

Which headlight restoration kit did you buy? I've used several and had mixed results. With the right sandpaper grits & an effective plastic polish like Meguiar's PlastX...you should have noticeable results. The important part is to seal the headlight once you're happy with them so they won't "decay" quickly.

I used PlastX both times I tried to restore my headlights with 3M's 1000 and 2000 Girt sandpapers.

Well maybe you're not using enough of the 1000 - the lens should look completely clouded, and you might also want to use something in between the 1000 and 2000 (such as 1500 grit).

It was completely clouded after I used the sandpaper. Once I put the PlastX back on it made it look like it did right before I used sandpaper on it.

Jason, you should have done a SEARCH here, you would have been given better advice than you received. Buy a headlight restoration kit, 3M is the best and includes everything needed to bring your headlights back to like new condition....Gary

without something to protect against the conditions and the sun, it'll eventually come back.

I use a cleaner wax every week after I wash. Seems to work fine.

Just use a tiny bit, then focus more on the application aspect, rubbing it in till it almost dries, then remove the residue. Sometimes I need to do this twice to remove all the yellowing.

Try a little and see if it makes a difference.

I also recall reading once that someone used a little brake fluid and it worked as well.

Back when the car was under warranty, the dealer would use a plastic wax which yielded similar results.

They don't look yellow, just cloudy. So this means you either didn't use fine enough grit sandpaper on the final sanding to get them smooth enough, or you didn't buff them out properly with polishing compound. That should be all you need to make them look new again.

My headlights have the clear bra stuff on them and they look pretty awesome!! I would highly recommend that to anyone to put on right after getting their headlights looking good again. My older brother has tried everything with his 350z headlights with no success, usually only last for about a week before they get all hazy again, I'll have to recommend the above DIY from the 350z guys to see if that will work.
