Minor repairs at the dealer: what did YOU pay?

Hey all

Taking my car to Oakville Infiniti (I'm Canadian.)

I'm getting the following work done:
- compression bushings, both sides
- 5at trans flush
- wires/plugs
- 2x rear axle greased

What can I expect to pay sans labour? Anyone had any of the work done?

My dealership was trying to charge me about 700+ just to change my compression rod bushings. They said they would have to replace the whole rod since they didn't sell the bushings individually. I bought the bushing from mynismo.com for 60 bucks shipped and had a local press them in for less than 100. My .02. Good luck

^ what he said for all that.. i can see a dealership trying to put 1k up your butt really easy...
everything can be done at a local shop (yelp it) or find reviews for a good quality shop.
good luck

I just had compression rod bushings replaced a few weeks back. They cost about $430 under normal circumstances, but the dealer had a 15% off parts and labor coupon online, so the total came in well under $400. This, along with the replacement of the rear end links are some of the best things you can do on a 1st gen G to make it feel new again from a suspension perspective (i.e. to eliminate common creaks and clunks)

I was quoted $90 to have the axles greased. The dealer also said that this is something that can wait as it does not affect the performance of the car at all, just sounds annoying. I will have this done next oil change (96k).

I had the plugs replaced at 65,000 miles under the 'spark plug boot oil leak' TSB. Everything was covered under warranty at the time, but they itemized the plug replacement on the bill. Parts and labor were just under $200.

Auto trans drain and refill was $170 the last time I had it done at a dealer. However, now that my car has some miles on it, I will have this done at my local garage as it is fairly simple to do and all garages buy the Matic-J trans fluid from Infiniti anyway. I think I was quoted just over $100 recently to have this done outside of Infiniti.

Note that I have lived in 3 major metropolitan areas with the same car, and the Infiniti dealers have been consistent with their charges in each. I think most of this stuff is book, so it should be the same up north, other than the fact I believe you guys pay a bit more in sales tax.

Hope this helps.

Mike

I'v done some researching. I'll prob end up buying OEM or better parts and drop the car off at the dealership. I'll pay the $100/hr labour to have the use of a loaner, warranty on their work and a receipt w/ their letterhead on it for when I trade the car in for a 2014 when I buy new next.

You really should change the compression rods, not just the bushings. By changing compression rods, you replace the ball joints also. Otherwise, when your ball joints go bad, then you need to change the whole compression rods anyway, so why pay twice for the bushings.

A while back, my dealer told me the bushings cracked and cost almost $400 to replace them. I did a lot of research on this topic and replaced both compression rods for about $600 at a local shop, and the rods are Infiniti OEM.

Spk to the stealership and was quoted:

- Compression rods/bushings, both sides(includes alignment): $1200
- 5AT trans flush: $120
- Wires/plugs: $220
- 2x rear axle greased: $130
(ALL INCLUDING LABOUR @ $112/hr)

This and; policy says no outside parts, everything must be bought from them, OTC.

Pretty much makes my decision for me.

Appt booked w/ Oakville Infiniti for Nov 16. Looking forward to having my tight steering back, not listening for those damn axle clicks and a smoother tranny!

wow... each compression arm costs $195.82. I would say they are entitled to a little bit of markup, but $800 to install is absurd.

have fun with that.

OEM Compression Rods list for $304.75 not sure where the $195.82 came from but that's still not anywhere close to 1200$ unless that's labor included

If its broken, fix it.

If you can't afford to fix it, trade in for a Honda.

I live in one of the most affluent areas in Canada. I'm not saying its not a lot, but not a lot for me.

I would ask about replacing the bushings only. Here locally, the dealer used to replace the entire compression rod, but recently changed to a model where the bushings only can be replaced. If your ball joints are fine, there's no need to replace them. Could save you $800. An alignment is not needed if only the bushings are replaced.

I actually had all those problems above done last year at the dealer. The price I paid was pretty close to what you have listed here. GL.
