In nevada if you pay another states sales tax when buying a car you take the "receipt" to the Dept of Motor Vehicles to license your car. Our state bills Ca. for the cost of the NV sales tax. Ca is higher so they still profit. In Caifornia you can not drive a car off the lot with out paying thier sales tax. To avoid paying their sales tax you can have a car delivered to the state line for whatever the towing charge is, in my case the towing charge would have been 500.00 and the difference in sales tax between the two states was some where around $260.00 more in Ca. so I paid their sales tax and drove it off the lot.

It wasn't difficult to get my car for $500 over invoice. I'm really curious as to why some are so hell bent on getting it at invoice? What's another $500 over 5 yrs or whatever term you do? If all I could do was $1000 over invoice on the exact car I want... sure I'd do it. So I just put an extra $1k down... it isn't a big deal over a period of time.

Can someone explain exactly how Grubbs will sell at invoice + shipping? Like the previous post, I don't need invoice exactly, but I want the best deal I can get. I do qualify for VPP, but I am not sure that's better than invoice plus, say $500.

Also, did anyone else notice that Grubbs online inventory removed the MSRP prices, and the VPP prices are now almost the same as MSRP??? Take a look:

update, looks like MSRP and VPP prices are back on Grubb's website, although they don't list VPP price for the 6MT's...

$500.00 is $500.00 + tax and interest on that $500.00 over 5 years. I was fortunate enough to pay cash for the car I just bought, so interest wasnt a factor. But if the cheapest I could get the car was a 1000.00 over invoice then I would have still bought it. In Vegas they wouldnt come down off MSRP so when I started shopping in LA which is only a 4 to 5 hour drive I would bought it in LA for a 500.00 savings just to spite the dealers. according to my calculations I saved closer to 2000.00 getting the car at about 300.00 over invoice. If you had 2 dealers in your town, one in your neighborhood and one 10 miles away that was 500.00 cheaper would you drive that 10 miles to save 500.00 + tax+ interest over 5 years??

eh... I still see it as $500 over 5 yrs ($100/yr) isn't going to make a big deal in the grand scheme of things. So you eat friggin ramen one day a week. But you could also just put that additional amount down and it wouldn't be $500+tax/interest. Maybe my point isn't clear enough, but if +$500 is going to break you, you probably shouldn't be buying this car. If you don't have that extra $500-1000 to put down to avoid the $500+tax/interest... anyways... i may just think differently.

well thats the great thing about forums,,, you can post your opinions and yours isnt a bad one. My point is this, if these money hungry dealers think that they have you in a corner with a certain price, then shop. Im stubborn and I wont let a dealer take advantage of me. If one dealer says 35,000. and the guy next door says 34,990. for the same car, im buying a car from him and getting lunch with that 10.00.
I see you have the sport suspension, wish I coulda got that option too. The nearest car that had the nav pkg with sport susp was in Oregon and would take a week longer to deliver, but it was black. I refuse to have a black car in Vegas. Did u test drive both? is the sport susp a rougher ride?

Sport suspension package comes with 5 spoke wheels (vs. 6), better tires, tighter strut valving and stiffer springs.

Worth it if you really get into the advanced handling aspects of the car.

Otherwise, most people would probably be more than happy with the stock setup..which does happen to ride a little softer.

I did test drive both 05 models w/ and w/out sport suspension. It is a little bit firmer. But I've got no complaints. Wondering if the sport suspension is gonna cause me more rattles down the road?

Yes, I had to travel an hour and a half from home to get the price I wanted. But that's only because the nearest dealership is that far away. Any Infiniti dealership, whether you bought the car through them or not, MUST stand behind the Infiniti warranty or risk losing the Infiniti brand. And what do you think a dealer is going to tell you: "Gosh, we're having a terrible quarter or year." Of course he or she will boost their numbers. And plus, who are we kidding, even at invoice the dealership is making at least a 2% of MSRP in hold back. Selling a car at invoice makes everyone happy. The customer is happy because he/she saved some money and got a car for the same price a friend/relative did and the dealer is happy because he/she made a fair profit and made room for another car to be sold.
People should avoid buying a car from a dealer that is in business to make a profit? Do you work for free? I am happy to discount a car, but invoice is not a reasonable price to pay on most cars. The expenses that a dealer incurs when the car his the lots are well over $1000 on average. Selling a car for invoice does not consitute a fair profit (unless you have a huge incentive, which is rare on an Infiniti). And to correct some others, the loaner cars are only required to be given out when a car is in for warranty work while the car is covered under warranty. Any dealer will repair a car under warranty. I give loaners to all customers that purchase from me (or move here and become service customers), regardless of miles, which is also not required.

I'm in Atlanta and off the bat the Internet sales manager quoted me $500 over invoice for an 05 G35, he offered $1000 under invoice on the 2004, but 05 is nicer IMO. I told him I would think about since I'm not in any rush, I think I will get him either at invoice or 200 above at max, we have about 4 dealers in the area so I'll work them hard! Only thing he said is the dealer installs XM or Sirius at $600 (instead of factory's $400) because this allows customers to choose between the two, according to him they see very few factory xm/sirius come in, is this true or undercoating?

My dealer told me that Sirius and XM are put on at the port, not by the factory. Makes sense since a car could have the right configuration with options/color but have XM when the customer wants Sirius, or neither-too limiting to be done at the factory. When the dealers place their orders or do trades at the port, then the port puts on XM or Sirius if requested by the dealer for the customer

I searched through probably 40 dealer inventories in the NE, and I only remember seeing one car that said it had Sat radio (this one was Sirius), possibly that was put on the by the factory?
