Question 05 G35 6mt

I just got my 2005 6MT and I really love it. My wife is not real happy with the ride; she says its rough and I say its tight. Anyway, its my car right ? I got a good deal on an '05 with the Premium package through Infiniti's VPP program which worked out to 0.85% above invoice. I really wasn't looking for the Premium package, but this was the first and only 6MT coming in for a while in my area (southern La.) so I scooped it up.

A couple of questions 1) I have been reading other threads about the break-in period and am a little concerned. The dealer said to "drive it" and I have been doing a few full throttle blasts to 6.5K, not a lot but I have had a little fun. He said no sustained high rpm driving but a little fun would not hurt. I have 320 miles on it. Now I see others mentioning not going past 4K for the first 1200 miles. Have I hurt anything ?

2) On a hard launch (I know - break-in) from a stop and during the 1-2 shift, there is a clicking noise coming from the engine/trans area. It almost sounds like valve clatter and only seems to occur during harder driving. It does not do it unless it's from a stop or the 1-2 shift. Revving the engine while in neutral does not produce the noise so it seems like its transmission related. Any thoughts ?

Thanks

I never pushed the car passed 4-4.5k, but when driving on the freeway I'd hit 4k in 6th gear doing about 110 and then I would slow it down to vary the rpms . The manual says keep it under 4k and nothing about 55mph break in, so I took it as good sign. I have about 1,100 miles on the car and I just pushed it to 5k and it felt good, I can't wait till 1,200, Ill get an oil change and get a good feel for it 8)

I can't believe some of you guys wait till 1200 to pass 5,000 rpm. You must have nervs of steel.

Haha, I waited till I had 1,000 to go over 4k, it wasn't easy, but my last car was slow and this thing is so damn fast, you don't really need to go over 4k. I was debating whether or not to open it up with 1,100, but I'll get the oil changed Monday or Tuesday and I should have 1200, then its time to have some fun.

Hey they finally revised the transmission so that it doesn't grind or pop out of gear anymore on the new 2005's?

I just got my G back from the dealer where I had brought it in to investigate the noise. They contacted Infiniti's Techline who wanted to compare mine to another 05 6MT. Unfortunately they aren't expecting another 6MT for a month. They went through the transmission externally to make sure everything looked OK and found nothing wrong. The service manager was a very knowledgable guy on the 6MT cars and said his 03 Coupe has similar characteristics. They are going to call my car back in when the next 6MT arrives to compare.

I have a chattering noise during shifts at high RPM's. I will bring it in on my second oil change (first done at 1000 miles).

The engine seems to make a lot of rattles here and there, until something goes wrong I won't worry about it, I still have about 99,000 miles left on my warranty, so if it takes a dump on me, time for a loaner
