Key Transponder Chip Programming (lost key code)
Key Transponder Chip Programming (lost key code)
I went to get my key programmed from a locksmith (cut/program) but when they hooked up their machine it would not register the ECU.
I used to have a little metal tag with a 4 digit pin code for programming the key. It was on the key ring that was lost and I am replacing.
My questions:
Is it possible to recover the key code? is the key code specific to my vehicle?
Trying to avoid going to the stealership - they want to charge $125 JUST TO PROGRAM. Greedy b@st@rds.
The real issue is because i have an early 2003 with the diff ECU - all the other ECUs work from the locksmiths experience.

I don't think you can program it yourself - some cars can but not ours (as far as i know)
all keys must be programmed at the same time - when you program them you delete previous codes and only program the ones you have
I'm told some companies are able to "clone" the signal though

i called 4 different dealers (Nissan/Infiniti) here in Vegas and they ranged from $110-145
Other dealers elsewhere charge like $45...I'm gonna have it programmed when I head out of town for the holidays

That pin code is just the decoded BCM pin. You can use an online BCM decoder to get the pin number.
Look on the front of the BCM, there's a 5 digit alphanumeric code, it literally says PIN: ##### you need that code, put it into a BCM decoder online, it returns the 4 digit actual pin number you need for the BCM.
It's was part of the component anti-theft system and it was pretty effective since the only way to get the pin USED TO BE using the Nissan software. Now however those decoders are available online so I just wrote the pin number for mine in sharpie right on the BCM so I don't need to look it up every time.
Here's the site I used, I know it asks for a 20 digit code but just putting in the 5 digit code from your BCM works.
