Newbie here...headlight question

I have a 2005 g35x. I wanted to change the headlights on my car. I was going to just change the bulb but then i saw that the shades were dull. I figured I should just change the whole thing. I dont know if it just that the headlights are dull but I cannot see when I drive at night.

My question.. What is a good headlight to change it to? Should I buy a HID kit? I dont know what I need. I just need brighter lights.

Thanks for the help in advance!!

You have hids from the factory. Stand in front of your car with the headlights on to see if a bulb is out. If not you can use a headlights cleaning kit to clear the lenses. One new headlights for this car is over $300.

Your headlights are already HID. They use a bulb type called a D2R

Not sure what you mean by the "shades" are dull.

HID bulbs do become dimmer as they age. If your bulbs are original, they are 8 years old.

Grab a pair of aftermarket 5000-6000K D2R bulbs from an online vendor (don't go 8K as the human eye has trouble seeing light once you get higher than 5000K) and a tube of PlastX from Autozone. The PlastX can do a decent job of polishing thbe lights. Once done, apply a few coats of wax to the lens and repeat every 3 months or so.

On topic: you could buy aftermarket lights for cheep on ebay, like everything though you get what you par for. I would have a detail-er wet-sand your headlights and you could spray on a UV protection film and you'll be good.

toothpaste is another solution to the cloudy light covers, apply, rub, wash off. and should clean them in no time. just don't get toothpaste on paint as it will damage the paint.

Chocolate works well as a polish too.

Plus you can eat it!

lol, its from the grit....

just get the 3M headlight restoration kit

If you are ambition put some Morimoto Mini projectors in the tops, or you could do bottoms at the same time

Get the morimoto bulbs if you are replacing them
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ << Great place for buying projectors/bulbs/etc

Use the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit to clean the lens and UV protect them afterward

TBWs recommendation is perfect, no one makes a better headlight restoration kit than 3M....nobody!
