First G35?

Hi everyone. It says on Wiki that the first V35 sedans were rebadged as Infinitis, shipped to the US in March, 2002 and sold as an '03 model. I also know Wikipedia can be inaccurate.

The label on my '03 sedan says it was manufactured in January, 2002

So, I either have one of the first ones in America or this is bad info. Is there a way to know for sure from running a search on my VIN?

I love this car and plan on keeping it forever, now that it's modded to my liking. It would be interesting to know if somebody had the first G35 available in the US!

How is that bad info? Your car was built in January, shipped in March, and then sold sometime after that. New model vehicles usually begin production much earlier than their model year states.

yea takes awhile to build a batch and get ready for shipping especially if its a first time year production.

Thanks guys. I've seen classic car guys claim that they have "number 27 of 400 produced." and made me wonder how they know that.

Depends highly on what car we are talking about. Some cars have serialized plates or documentation, other cars have known production numbers. Usually the data is leaked by an insider who has access to records the public does not. This is non-typical, so it's not recorded for every vehicle made. Not everyone cares that their mini-van was #450 out of 45,000 made. But a Corvette ZR1 with limited production....its a big deal.

The VIN number is not car-make specific, and they don't all start at 00000000 each year. For example with Ford motor company (because I know them the best) they would assign a VIN block starting with 1000000 for all fords made each model year, and then start it with 5000000 for all Lincolns and so on. So if a Taurus rolled off the lot at model 10000001, the next car wouldn't necessarily need to be a Taurus, it could be a F-150 with a vin of 10000002.

This is all recorded internally and not released to the public unless someone leaks it. Best you'll find is that there were XXX amount of G35's produced for the 2003 model year...and to be quite honest, even that data hasn't been made official has it?

I know i've asked before, but i've yet to see production data released for any G35 model. So i couldn't tell you if they made 30,000 each year, or 150,000 each year.

Cliffs Notes: I have no clue

That's actually lower than I thought. I'm curious to see the breakdown of 6MT, coupes. AWD, etc. The data exists, but nissan owns it. Unless an enthusiast who has access leaks it, we might never find out.

As I stated those are just US sales, remember these were sold practically everywhere except Europe and China so build numbers will be much higher.
To the OP, it looks like the first V35's were built in 2001 so a January 02 build date might not be that rare. You should be able to do a title search and see when it was originally registered.
