Dirt and sand inside wheel well
I was changing my tires today, and when I took my jack out of its compartment in the trunk, I decided to stick my hand in there and feel around. As a previous Honda owner I know rust usually starts inside the wheel well right where our jack sits. It was good on top, but I managed to get my hand down to the bottom of the back of the wheel well and found that there was a lot of dirt and sand down there inside the car. I am going to take my trunk liner out and vacuum down both sides. If it gets wet down there it could start to rust. My car is in near mint condition and I don't even know how sand could get in there in the first place?
Sand and rocks have always gathered in the wheel wells of every car i've owned. Even bits of leaves and twigs. Somewhat normal problem. Whether or not it rusts depends on the vehicle, the paint, how good the drainage is, etc.
With that said, i know i have leaves and twigs and sand and crap in my wheel liners. I usually clean it out every spring. No rust
