Fuel gauge isnt working properly

Hi guys!
I need some advice on how to fix a fuel gauge problem on my 2005 g35x. from what i understand there are two sending units responsible for proper operation of fuel gauge..both are located under the rear passenger seat? ..i ve also heard about some q-tip cleaning...at any rate i would like to do it myself but yet i am slightly confused. Id greatly appreciate if you can clarify all this for me
