05 G35X exhaust mods
05 G35X exhaust mods
I know there is a super huge thread on this already and I read through a lot of it but... I thought I would ask a specific question..
I have an 05 G35x. I used to have acuras TL and CL S type.
The S got an additional 27-32 ponies at the wheels with a set of headers from comtech. I stayed with the stock pipes since they were already fairly efficient.
I was wondering about a borla exhaust system for the x
Has anyone put one on an 05 and can tell me about the cost, performance, and any additional noise. I do not want to make the car something I cannot live with noise wise. I am more curious about performance gains. Are the modest at best, etc.?

You're basically screwed for the time being. Not much sense in changing the headers if you can't change the "Y" pipe. Nobody is currently producing a Y that'll clear the transfer case on the X and, from what I understand, nobody's in any great hurry to do so.
Being very limited with what I can do to the exhaust on my X (as in NO "Y" pipe avail) I tried the obvious and was VERY pleased. I coupled the stock Y to an '05 G35 cpe. mid pipe and bolted that directly to a Stillen single pipe rear and got, not only, great sound....BUT also the big weight loss of the frigg'n stock sdn. mid pipe. GOD what a pig! To be very honest...I don't know if I tapped into any extra HP, but I feel some improvement by the ever popular "butt o' meter". Cost ...apoprox. $450. and about an hour of work.

great link....BUT.... I thought the guy was asking about a G35XXXXXX and the post (your link) was pretaining to an 03' sedan (RWD) no? Since we can't get an after market "Y" pipe for the X to begin with...the rudimentary application of a tapered flange from a stock 'Y' to a stock 'B' doesn't really help the guy. Am I missing something????
