Burning Rubber smell when heat is on

Hello,

I have an 05, rwd sedan. In the last 2 months i have noticed an unbearable burning smell coming when my heat is on. I thought it was the new tires i got put on my car initially, then I thought it was something wrong with my engine...it still may be...however I only notice it when my heat is on, and after i've stepped on the gas a little. What could it be and what should I check for?

Thanks,

Sometimes plastic grocery bags get on the exhaust and take awhile to burn off. Look under your car and see if that has happened. Probably need to jack it up.

I get the same thing..

When I drive it hard, it will always do this. Kinda smells like a belt is slipping and burning, but I don't hear it.. I can smell the smell a lot under the front two wheel wells. A little more under the left than the right, which is strange.

My friends have also stated that there was smoke coming from my vents at one point after actually driving it hard. Is it common to get stuff stuck to your exhaust?

I just noticed this the other day as well and can't figure it out. I do have a leak from the lower oil pan I need to fix, so I was thinking that's a possibility.

I've had this smell too. Comes into the car when idling at a stop. I thought it was an exhaust leak (and I did have one, which was fixed), but I still have the smell. I have 125k miles and I'm wondering if it's the cats. Not quite a rotten egg smell and not really an exhaust smell, so I'm not sure

Any of you guys have a leaky oil cooler? I've only noticed this odor after my oil pan failed to seal properly.

My '06x does has rubber-burning smell too, but I haven't found the source. I only notice it while sitting, waiting for a stoplight to change. I also smell it sometimes after shutting the car down. I'm going to take a look at the belts tomorrow and see if they look toasted.

Glad I'm not the only one. First I thought I was rubbing but I wasn't theb I thought it's the degreaser I use to my rims that maybe gone in the calipers or something but it still smelled like that even after not using that degreaser for a while. I do have small leak at my O-ring in my oil cooler. Not 100% if it is that. I'm just glad it's just not my G that does this.

I wonder if it's water/steam boiling off the front brakes from deep puddles and such? Been hitting a lot of them lately with all of this melting snow. How about you guys - are the roads wet when you have this smell, or is it all the time?

It's mostly a winter/cooler weather thing and associated with the heat. It's a rubber smell that is smelled both inside and outside of the car. You usually see these posts in the winter time, and not so much in the summer when the AC is used which is strange.

Like mentioned previously, this is a common complaint for years, with no source located just yet
