Which is it ???????
Which is it ???????
Ok....I have read all the tire posts that people have made. I have used the miata tire size guide and I have searched for available tires. I want the REAL STORY (if anyone really knows)......
I want to place the largest best performing summer tire on the factory rims. I really like the 245/45 17 SO3. Will these rub the fender wells? The tire guide says that 245/50 17 is more of a match but there are not as many choices. I know that 235/50 17 is almost identical but the tire choices are bleek.
I wanna go with 245/45 17 SO3's but I am not sure if they will fit correctly on the rims and not rub the wells. I race the car and the tires need to be as big as I can get but also be appropriate for the mounting conditions. I will probably get new rims one day but I like the sleeper factory look.
Thanks....I need to buy the tires ASAP. Any help is always appreciated. I hope my answer comes from someone who has tried.
P.S. my car has a (roughly) 2" drop and this might effect tire selection (not sure)......

Re: Which is it ???????
I think the closest you're going to get to the "real story" is that Infiniti says, officially, 225 is the widest they recommend in the front. Beyond that, you have people saying "I have 235/245 tires and they don't rub" for what it's worth.
Yes, dropping the suspension most likely will reduce your clearance in the front -- remember, the tire has to be able to be fully turned and the suspension fully compressed at the same time, without rubbing.
BTW, according to the specs page on tirerack.com, a Bridgestone S-03 in 245/45R17 requires a minimum 7.5" rim, your stock rims are only 7". I think the closest you can get with S-03's with stock rims is 225/55R17.
The stock tire size choices suck. 235/50R17 offers the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S or the Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico, but that's about it. Beyond that, it seems you almost have to get away from 17" rims to get decent tires, which sucks, because I like to maintain the stock external appearance as well.

Re: Which is it ???????
THIS SUCKS! #^$%
I guess I would rather have the 235/50 17 Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico then the SO3. The width has to make-up for the weaker tire......
That settles it....I am off to charge up a set of Pirelli's
i will give a full report after the sebring races the end of the month
