05 Sedan with Z tube thoughts
#16
slight update..
I 've been driving around this afternoon listen to the new Z tube. I can hear a slight noise just off idle, and maybe it is a little more aggressive sounding in the upper RPMS......certainly not much.
If I didn't change the tube myself, I would never know that anything is different. That is how slight the change is.

Have any of you looked inside your stock tube? There is a small hole (maybe the size of a dime) in the top of the tube for the upper resonator. On the bottom of the tube, there is a larger hole (a bit bigger than a quarter) for the lower resonator.
What do yours look like? AFter work, I'll take pics and post them. Maybe the intake tube for the '05 6MTs is different.

This morning I drove my sons to school in the sedan. Sigh... no difference. Maybe adding a coupe mid-pipe will increase the fun. Then again, the 05 may already have it.

I do not have the K&N and I definitely hear the difference.

It must be the 6MT/5AT thing. I have the '05 5AT and i think i agree that it's twice as loud above 3K rpm than before. Before it would just get higher pitched and have more vibration at higher rpms. After ztube it now it has a distinct moan that resonates in the cabin at higher rpm. Again i relate it to the sound of a small block V8 with the air cleaner cover removed or "flipped up" on top of a 4barrel carb.
My buddy has the 05 6mt and just put on a ztube..we'll compare next time i see him.

Here is a comparision of the two pipes side by side:

Also did you ever drive the car without the HKS muffler, did you like the mid pipe this much then?
