Some time ago someone posted that if you lock the AWD on for an extended period of time you would damage the front differential. Plus the beauty of the Infiniti system is that in two wheel mode the work that the tires do is divided. The rear wheels drive and the front steer. The amount of traction available goes to separate functions. When the front wheels also drive the available traction to steer is reduced. This is more noticeable in the wet than in dry conditions.

The AWD system works great.

I drive my car in deep snow for 50+ miles at time. I love this car in the snow. The AWD system works great. Don't put a lot of thought into it. Just drive.
