VDC: Off ?

Today I was getting on the freeway on ramp so I turned the VDC off because when it brakes around a turn, it slows the car down too much. I had the car under control while the tail was commin out, the VDC Off light was on, however turned its self off, the VDC did kick in as well, but that was after the turn was almost over.

Is this normal?

It kinda pissed me off because I know how the car willl react without computer aided help, the vdc can really throw me off sometimes, almost making it more dangerous than helpful.

Is what normal?
If the question is; is it normal for the vdc to kick in when the tail is coming out? The answer is yes it is normal for the vdc to kick in when the tail is coming out.

I guess I worded it bad, I turned the VDC off, but after the turn was almost over the vdc turned back on by itself. I did not want it on, I turned it off, but it automatically turned back on, now, is that normal?

I think to truly disengage the VDC you have to like, turn it off and do some donuts in a parking lot until the SLIP and ABS lights come on and stay on.

With VDC turned off the ABLS and ABS systems still function. The ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip) brakes the slipping wheel which will distribute the driving power back to the other drive wheel. (I'm paraphrasing from the manual.)

Sounds like your car works normally. If you want to defeat the system entirely, you'll have to pull a fuse. Proceed at your own risk.

Yep, it seems the only way to truely turn off the VDC is to yank the ABS fuse.

It's odd, in my auto if I turn off the VDC in drive and I spin the tires wildly, it will come on, but it doesn't interfere near as much as if it were truely switched on. Then if I turn off the VDC in manumatic mode in gear 1 and spin the tires wildly, it doesn't seem to come on at all even if I'm spinning them into 2nd.

I have a 04 6 MT and Ive done this without the VDC coming back on. I mean, Ive disabled it and did a turn while sliding the back and and the VDC did not reactivate (it wasnt a fast corner it was a slide in 2nd gear). What I did notice however is that when I turn it off and then do some 180 or 360, sometimes, the SLIP light comes on! (and stays on). WTF is up with that?

It seems this behavior is normal from what doogie says. Ive never had the ABS light come on. I have even tried to step on the brakes hard and looked at the das, but I dont see that light coming up.

Why does the SLIP light come on if you disable VDC? (BTW even with the SLIP light on, I dont feel any assistance). I tried doing a 90 on a parking lot, but the back end just spun 180 and I couldnt control it (the parking lot's floor is very slippery so I always play there, that way, my rubber wont burn as fast), the SLIP appeared, but I did not feel any aid.

Thanks guys for the great info. Yeah the slip light blinked (saw it from the corner of my eye), and I wasn't about to stare at my guage pod while turning quick. I'll just leave it alone and enjoy the great handling

Interesting, with the VDC on and on a wet road, the rear of my G starting sliding going around a corner. Immediately the slip light came on, the rear wheels quit spinning and power from the engine was reduced, thus saving my a**. I never think about turning the VDC off.

In the rain I would not turn it off unless I want to get the butt out, but thats only when there is no traffic around. Also when driving the 6mt, I found that when making a left hand turn and going about 40% throttle and shiffting at 5k, the VDC kicks the brakes in real hard after shifting into second, and its very very very annoying and frustrating. When I turn it off and take the same turn, there is NO wheels spin what so ever, so I think VDC over reacts sometimes just to save "clumsy" drivers, however, there is nothing clumsy about a controlled turn that even my mom could take.

For me, when I turn VDC off, the SLIP doesnt BLINK it STAYS ON, but doesnt affect my driving. I dont feel aided. I have to turn the engine OFF and ON so that the SLIP thing goes away (tried turning VDC on and off but that didnt work).

Are you trying to post a dumb comment?
yes
Do you know what the onramp looks like that I did this on?
no
Do you think my car would still be in 1 piece if I tried that?
no

The onramp doesn't actually merge with traffic until the turn is completed and you drive about a 1/10th of a mile. It is also seperated from the freeway by a concrete divider, so if you are dumb enough to drift into traffic, please don't hurt anyone.

the slip light turning on doesn't neccessarily mean the VDC is working. it just means that slip is detected.

the pull you feel could simply be the V-LSD working.

I know this cause I tried driving my summer-tire 05 AT in the snow HAHAHAHA
