Sounds like the OEM glass is kind of weak if so many are getting rock chips that develp into cracks.
My old 95 Mustang GT had a dime size chip about three inches from the edge and never cracked. It lasted for about a year until I got it filled.

Guess I'll see if safelite has PPG glass, if not maybe find someone else.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

mike.

WOW

Just got off the phone with Safelite.

$208 for OE glass and they come to my house. I asked about the glass they use, and they said they make it their self. hmmmm

Lifetime warranty and a new trim/mold piece.

sound good?

Or should I shop for PPG glass.

thanks
mike

LOL, SafeLite is the brand, they don't make it at the shop, the shops are probably a franchise. I was told glass has changed in the last decade, they are always trying to make it lighter, I think the reason that chip on your Mustang didn't get worse is because it was in the middle of the windshield.

Mike,

Sounds like you got the deal of the century! I don't know why they charged me $380.
Buy it now before they change their mnd!

Ya....just realized that about safelite...never heard about them till now. Good thing I posted this on the forums.

Well...made the appointment for this saturday. Hopefully things go well.

For those who had safelite do their windows, did it look factory afterwards, or could you tell the glass was replaced.

Thanks
mike

Mike,

It looks identical, unless you look down at the drivers side bottom corner where the $980
Nissan/Infiniti stamp is missing! You can't tell it from the OEM windshield. Go fo it.
BTW, have you given any thought to driving the "Raging Bull TEXAS STAMPEDE"
on February 26? I'm definitly going. Hope to see you there.

Dave

I got a rock in my windshield a couple weeks ago during bad weather. Luckily, it didn't spread by the next Monday, when I had it filled. No spreading yet.

A couple summers ago, before I bought the car, I had 2 rocks in my windshield in one vacation. The first didn't spread. The second did.
