Okay, long story short... I accidentally rear-ended someone about 6 months ago and I only had liability insurance! Since it was my fault, I was left to fix the damage to my car on my own. The damage was to the front-passenger side, which included... the condenser, radiator, fan housing, core support mount, hood, grill, passenger headlight, and fender!!! I already replaced everything, refilled radiator and bought new battery... went to start it, but it only cracks and does not fire-up!?! I've been doing research online and I cannot find anything specific to my situation... please, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts let me know?!?

Can you get trouble codes? Are you sending fuel to the cylinders on ignition?

After the accident, did it start and run? Or did you tow it and let it sit and are just now trying to start it?

I'd say it's possible the intertia safety switch was tripped in the accident, but after a short search, it seems the G35 doesn't use such a switch. Hmm.

 

Well, I was able to drive it back to my place... turned it off and started it again after I reparked it! Didn't want to try again because the coolant was leaking rapidly fron the cracked radiator... so, it sat for a very long time.

 

Could potentially be bad gas. The new E10 stuff does not store very well. You may have to siphon out the fuel and try some new gas.

Basically you need 3 things to fire the engine. Air, fuel and spark.

Verify nothing made a nest in your cars air filter box over the last 6 months and you have a clear path into the engine.

For spark, I used to take a spare spark plug, lay it on the metal part of the engine, and hook a COP or iginition wire to it. When the engine cranks over, you can see the spark dancing around and verify that the plugs are in fact firing.

That leaves fuel. With a car sitting for 6 months, usually thr gas is fine, but sometimes it can go bad. If the gas is fine, is it getting to the engine? Are the fuel injectors pulsing? Do you smell raw fuel out the tailpipe when you are cranking? Is your fuel pump working?

During the course of your repairs, did you unplug or replace any harnesses? Are they all plugged back in?

 

i may be off base .. but did you relearn the throttle and all that nonsense ? I assume it has been dead and or unhooked from power for some time.

 

So, I checked for spark... and there is none what-so-ever! I thought that you could only reset the throttle body relearn, if the engine was warmed-up first... could this be an issue before no spark???

If you can't start the engine, there's nothing to relearn just yet.

Question is...why don't you have spark.

Are you absolutely sure all your wiring harnesses are plugged in from whatever front end repairs you made

Oh just to check...

When you check for spark, the plug needs to be grounded to the engine at some point. If you plug it into the COP and it hangs in midair, it wont fire. You need to angle it so that some part of th emetal body is grounded against the engine.

Just want to check that you did this right

 

Oh, wow... that is good to know... since was by myself I did hang it mid-air! So, if I took out spark plug #2... where should I angle/rest it if it is on the COP???

 

Intake manifold. basically any metal part of the engine

 

Okay, I just did that with my girlfriend trying to start the car... no spark! I also kept an eye on the intake actuator, to see it was opening and closing... I don't know if it is supposed to open a little bit or a lot???
