Gas mileage....?

I just took my new "Pre-loved" 2005 sedan on its first road trip and got 22.5 mpg overall... Or 362.5 miles before the gas light came on. Should this be considered approximately "normal"? My 2004 TL did a lot better (nearly 30 mpg) under similar circumstances - 75 to 80 mph on interstate, using cruise control when possible..... I know that the TL being front drive, would be a bit more efficient but should it be that much of a difference?

I think you need more than 1 trip to calculate the MPGs.

also when was the last time the spark plugs were changed and etc.

What he said.

You really need to log your miles traveled, and gallons used over the course of a few months. Also, use the same pump to do it. Then you'll get a better number that's more reflective of true milage.

But to answer your question, you're in the ballpark for what is normal. Should be more in the mid-20's for highway. I know i've squeaked out 25-26 MPG with my AWD sedan a few times. I typically average 22-23 though.

These cars blow for fuel economy. My V8 Mustang i traded it in for years ago got better fuel economy.

Use a mileage app like mileage keeper. Like mustang says use the same pump at the same station (3-4 tanks).

You can then try the same pump at a different station to see if one is better than the other.

The reason i say use the same pump is because there are slight differences in the nozzles and such that may result in one pump clicking off sooner than another. So to avoid this variable, try to stick to the same exact pump if you want to try and calculate an eact number.

for rough calculations..it doesn't matter.

Yeah.... All valid points. I guess 22 and change isn't all that bad. Seems in the ballpark. Just curious.

Only have had the car for about a month & a half. Dealer changed fluids and did belts. Air filter was nasty and I changed that beforehand. Really have no idea if the plugs have been replaced, although @ 122k that may have slipped through the cracks.... That'll be my next task.

Mileage was really bad when I got it.... mid teens first couple of in-town tanks

Must have been learning how to stay out of the loud pedal! Get about 18 now....

i use an app called milage, I never fill to full as I always use cash and never want to have to go get change.

but you put in how much gas you put in at each fill up along with your odomiter reading and it calculates over time your mpg. Highly recommend.

That loud pedal is a lot of fun. I've never had a car sound as good as this one with factory exhuast. It has just the right amount of growl.

Yeah... I'll second that. My old TL had NO exhaust note. The G has a nice gurgle, even if you don't goose it.

Which mileage app is that anyway? I type "mileage" in the App Store and get a billion hits.

Loud pedal makes me chuckle a bit. One of my fave features of my G is how quiet it is

Gas cubby on iOS I use the paid version, it keeps track of ALL auto expenses and gives you reminders of maint work to be done.

They are pretty damned quiet - Hardly any wind noise @ 85mph.

The G is much more "vocal" than my TL - it had no exhaust note to speak of and really only intake noise when I got on it & engaged VTEC.

Prob the reason that I got such bad mileage on the first 2 tanks was to listen to it

I agree. Ilove how it is on the freeway. Plus my interior is pretty rattle free even at 150K miles.

Yeah... I heard that the 2005-2006's were a little tighter interior wise. A little silicone spray took care of the squeaks that it did have. I my case it was leather rubbing on plastic mostly.
