2 Questions if you please
Hi all,
A couple weeks ago my 05 G35X sedan 112K miles got hit hard (air bag deployed but no injuries here). So insurance co totaled it. I found another 05 with 70K miles. Took delivery today. This is my 3rd 05-06 generation G.
Two questions:
1) What is the "flexing" noise these cars develop underneath? Is it chassis components, bushings or what, and what is the fix? So when turning or going over a speed bump I get the notorious "creak". My last 05 had it, too.
2) This G has a satellite antenna and the radio has the satellite mode. I have never had this in a G. Do I need to just sign up for Sirius or do I also need some type of add on device with the subscription?
Thanks,
Mary in Boston.

The creaking is most likely your compression rods. Unfortunately, if you got another X I believe its a fairly expensive, dealer-only fix. If you got a RWD model this time tho, its as cheap as you are skilled.
The satalite is the antenna only. You still have to subscribe to service. No add ons needed tho.

Coupe, Premium package, sport suspension
EDIT: actually, we don't know if you actually have the tuner. The car is pre-wired, but the satellite was an option depending on the package. If you select satellite mode, do you get the advertising channel? If so, you have the tuner and just need to subscribe. If not, then you need to get a tuner. Of course, since you say you have the antenna, I suppose it would be reasonable to expect you have the tuner, unless the previous owner removed it for some reason....

Of course, i'm just assuming the OP's issue is the most common cause for suspension creaking. WOuld need to drive car to properly diagnose.
Not sure if it's within the OP's skill to replace these. The issue with Northeast driven AWD models is corrosion from salt, and the bolts that hold the comp rods tend to rust up due to corrosion. On a southern RWD car, a comp rod change is easy, but on a 9-year old car driven in the northeast, these could be a huge PITA to change out.
Going to a dealer will be expensive. I'd ballpark it prob around $1K to replace both. Or you can find an independnent mechanic.
Of course, there could be other issues as well, but most common cause of suspension creaking is in fact the compression rods.
I'm also in Boston...see you on the road somewhere OP
I have a 05X and had both lwr control arms and compression rods replaced at the dealership l bought it from. I got a extended warranty with it. Cost was $100. I bought her with 85,600 on the clock. Glad l spent the money on warranty! I just felt alittle vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds. No creaking at all!
