Loud Whirring noise when shifting from park to reverse/drive
Hi, I have a problem that has been bothering me for a couple of days; I hope someone can help.
I own a 2004 G35x Sedan, with 220,000 km.
I live in Canada, and the temperature is ridiculously cold. Since last week, whenever my car was parked for more than 2 hours and I shifted from park to reverse or from park to drive, I would hear some loud whirring noise for about 3-5 seconds. For the duration of this noise, the car would briefly shake. If I was to shift from park to reverse/drive after this whirring noise occurred, it would not happen again. This does not happen any other time, and otherwise my gears have shifted perfectly.
I thought it would be the transmission mounts, however this only happens during the first start-up when the car is technically "cold", and does not happen thereafter, unless I park the car for more than 2 hours.
One thing I do notice though, that might not be related, is that if I accelerate the car more than 3k rpm, the engine makes a kind of faint grinding noise, but goes right away when I let go of the acceleration. This also only happens when the car is "cold"
I hope someone can give me some insight on this issue and can help me resolve the problem.
Thanks so much!
