I have a 2005 infiniti g35 and I was wondering if we turn on the engine with the key without the key fob. I tried it but a red key icon appeared in the speedometer and the car didn't start any ideas?

 

Yes, i can enter and start my car fine without the key inserted in the key fob.

 

if you have an intellikey (sounds like you do), then yes the key inside the fob should start the car. The purpose of the key is if the battery suddenly dies or something goes wrong with the intellikey. If you are getting a red light, then something is not right with the key

Yes, the key should start the car without the fob. Sounds like the key is not programmed properly to the car

 

Try replacing the FOB battery. I had the same thing happen to me when I first got my car.

Hes asking if the key only will start the car. The fob could be missing, left in the house, stolen, etc. Only the key portion of the I-key is being used here and present in the area of the vehicle.

And as stated...the key alone should be able to unlock the driver's door, the glovebox and start the car.
