06 G35X sedan won't shift into drive after losing clip
Just installed a new shifter trim for my G because the old one got a coin stuck inside the little pocket on the old trim. Two things happened:
1. Lost the shift **** clip underneath the trim on the inside
2. New piece of trim came with a ratchet a** shift lock on it and don't know if this has anything to do with it.
The pin is still stuck underneath the trim on the interior and I don't know if that pin is preventing it from shifting into drive or not. The car shifts into park, reverse, and neutral just fine but it won't shift into drive. Any suggestions as to what I could do? Would the pin missing prevent the car from shifting into drive? I even tried to go to autozone and picked up some universal clips and bent them to shape and it holds the shift **** in place but it still won't shift into drive. Would the pin get stuck under the shifter to prevent shifting? Is the shift lock broken and preventing it from going into drive? Would resetting the ECM by disconnecting the battery possibly fix the issue because the car doesn't recognize the new piece of trim? Any help/suggestions would be nice thanks!

I don't believe there's any electronic component reliant upon the shifter/shift trim plate. The plug is just to connect to the hazard lights and provide lights/power to the readouts on the shifter and seat warmer switches.
Have you tried to remove the shift lock and bypass the electronics of the car completely, though, to see if disengaging the shift lock allows it to shift to all positions?
My bet is that the clip dropped into a very inopportune place. Just need to fish it out.

Need more info.
#2) i have no idea what you mean here.
What pin is stuck?
If you take the shift **** off, and push the blue pin down, can you move the shifter? Have you tried removing the shift lock plate and depressing the plunger with the tool located in the trunk?

To OP, that won't affect anything, as it's just a cover. it's what's underneath the shift lock cover once it's removed that matters.
