Can't read the dipstick
What TF is wrong with this thing? I'm not sure how my car is with oil so I'm trying to check it like twice a week or so to see how much oil it burns but I can never get a good read..ever. It looks like the oil stops right at the low sign on the stock but when you turn it over it goes all the way up the stick? How do you guys get past this thing and figure out what your oil levels actually are?? Please help I wanna stop worrying about my oil levels hahah

Let the car sit for 20/30 minutes after engine is off than check.

Time of day doesn't matter. Do you wipe the stick off first before putting it back in to check the level? 2 hours is more than enough for the oil to drain back to the pan so you should be able to get a consistent reading.

Leave it sit over night and check it the morning. Look at the side the gauge is on and believe. What else can you do? I have 2 VQ35DE's and neither one is a problem to read. The oil level is the same on both sides of the stick. Pull it out, wipe it off, reinsert, pull it out and read.

its easier to jus check it in the morning before u start ur day

Like others have said, just try first thing in the morning after the car has sat.
Before my '05 G35, had an '02 Maxima. Always had the same issues...couldn't get a decent reading unless I checked first thing in the morning. |
Ull get used to it. Ima pro at reading the dipstick

Welcome to Auto 101, don't fathers teach their sons anything in today's world? After you've waited for the oil to drain back down while checking your dip stick you may need to turn it over to find the line, my stick is one sided!

I agree with everything else said here. Park the car on a level spot, go have lunch or dinner for 2-3 hours. Come back. pull the stick, wipe it, and reinsert and then take a reading.
I find that if the oil level is at the very bottom of the hash zone, i'm 1 qt low |
This thread made me laugh and sad at the same time.

I hear ya EZ. the oil dip setup on these is screwy!! I do have to let mine sit longer than any other car/truck i've owned. I also insert my dipstick =) both directions - as in - with the stamped lettering facing toward grill and then again facing toward firewall. It varies. I also have learned that when it's low on oil... get the oil on the side of dipstick you mentioned. I put a quart in and then get consistent readings! Lettucekno how it goes.

ugh isnt the stick pre-formed to go in a specific way other wise ur jus forcing it and bending it?
