Headlight question....I know its been beat to death but I think this one is different

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I plan on fully modding my car within the next year and a half (I'm talking rolled fenders, bagged, nismo kit, etc). Though I have searched numerous forums I have yet to find the exact answer to my question. I have an 04 sedan with factory HID. I recently was in a fender bender that cracked the housing and basically rendered the headlight assembly useless even for spare parts (though the lights and bulb still work). I know from reading your previous posts that the bulb from my stock HID will not fit in the halogen OEM. My question is because I plan on doing a quad retrofit projector assembly(I plan on blacking out the entire housing so as not to be "That Guy") will that allow my bulb to fit in the halogen assembly? If not, is there another HID bulb that would fit my stock ballast setup that I could use in the retrofit? Or would I have to convert the entire thing using an aftermarket HID kit?

Thanks for your help....and sarcasm, because everyone loves sarcasm lol

You would probably have to do an H1 aftermarket kit unless your new projectors accept a D2R bulb. That would be the easiest way. I have a oem set of headlights out of my 04 sedan that are factory HID but they need to be re-cleared. No broken tabs or anything. Just make me an offer if you are interested. I replaced mine with oem and spent almost 1800 on the pair.

So projector bulbs and reflector bulbs are completely different. They won't work in the wrong housing, as the projection pattern is different. That's why that Civic heading down the road is blinding you, because he is running a projector bulb in his reflector housing.

If you plan on doing a projector retrofit, you need new bulbs for those. I would also recommend aftermarket ballasts, as your ballasts are on the way out being 12-13 years old.

So you are looking to order 2 sets of projectors, wiring for those, ballasts, bulbs, igniter x4. Just realize the expense may not be worth it on a commuter car. You can buy new HID black housing sedan reflectors on eBay for around $200 shipped. Consider that. Good luck n

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I'm considering going with the Spyder aftermarket HID projectors. I'll start posting pics of the project soon

Check out the retrofit source.com I've done about 6 retrofits on my car and sold them all. I just finished one a couple days ago. It only takes about 4 hours if you are familiar with wiring. To keep your OEM ballasts you'll need a D2S projector and D2S HID bulb. The stock D2R bulb has a grey square on it to be used in a reflector as not to produce glare. If you have detailed questions just search. Theres been a bunch of people doing retrofits. Also HIDplanet is an awesome source of info

you can swap in morimoto mini H1's into your headlights and run the mini gatling gun shrouds so you dont have to trim anything. it's super easy. You will have to get all new HID's though, unless you mod the oem ballast wire to have AMP outputs instead of a D2S clip.
