Sunroof won't open/retract
I recently bought another 6-speed '06 Infiniti G35 Sedan after my last one was totaled. I guess you could say I wasn't ready to let the car go.
Amongst the plethora of small problems that allowed me to get this one for a great price, is a sunroof that will not retract (open) into the roof. It will tilt up and down without issue, and it will begin to retract, but will hit the physical limiter switch (green plastic with a little spring on it) almost immediately, and return to the closed position. The motor seems to be running fine, and the clutch seems to engage without issue.
I removed the glass and interior sunroof cover/shade, and was able to see that the limiter switch is not moving when the 'open' button is pressed. I can't really tell from pictures if the switch should be at the front or at the back of the tracks (where the sunroof would be in the full open position). I am unable to move the limiter switch by hand, nor can I turn the motor using an allen key (I put as much pressure on the 4mm key as I am willing to risk, to no avail.)
When I started tearing into this project, I assumed the sunroof was hitting the shade, which had been knocked off its track, but it still didn't work when the shade had been removed. A few of the 'feet' that hold the shade on track were broken off, so it is possible one of them is preventing the limit switch from retracting, but I figured the switch would at least try to move if that were the case.
Worst case scenario is that the cable to pull the sunroof back is broken, and I have to disassemble the interior, and remove the headliner to take out the the sunroof assembly completely. I tried the 'reset sunroof limit' procedure from Nissan/Infiniti, but could not get it to work.
What could be preventing the limit switch from moving? Should the limit switch be at the front of the travel (sunroof closed position) in the first place? How can I move the limit switch to the back?
I should mention I will be pillaging another G35 in a wrecking yard, so I will be able to investigate a potentially working sunroof, but that won't be until a few days from now.
Thanks!
