Compression Rod Removal

I'm trying to remove the compression rod (passenger side/front). For the life of me, I cannot remove the nut from the end that connects to the frame of the vehicle (2005 G35x). Am I missing something? Is there some sort of trick to it?

That nut is torqued to 114 ft/lbs, PB Blaster is love, PB Blaster is life. Get a 6 point socket and a 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 24" pipe on the end of it, it'll break free.

I'd try some heat or impact gun if you can. You don't want put too much torque on something that hasn't been taken off in a long time. I believe there were a few members here who had the stud break off on them.

Yep! Add rust penetrant and then add a duck ton of heat!!! You do NOT want to have A stud break off.

Thanks all! I did manage to get it to turn after soaking the heck out of it with PB Blaster + being patient + breaker bar. Thought that was the end of it.....but Noooooo. The compression rod bushing had seized to the stud that's welded to the frame. And when I say seized, I mean it became one with the stud. Had to cut and cut and cut and cut it. Finally, after basically removing most of the metal pushing, I hammered the crap out of it, and it finally moved enough to remove the whole thing. SUCCESS!!! And then I realized that I damaged the threads on the stud. Great. It looks like I can rethread it with a tap and die set (14mm x 1.50). Any thoughts on that?

Maybe Harbor Fright carries that size in their metric set. I'll check for you later.

Got it Urban, you'd have to buy their $85 kit to get the 14-1.5.

https://www.harborfreight.com/45-pc-...set-60676.html

None of the cheaper kits have that large of a size.

Just ordered a 14mm x 1.50 die off Amazon. I have a friend with a tap and die set. I'll get the order on Thursday. Wish me luck! FWIW, it cost me $8,
