Magnaflow Exhaust & Muffler Replacement Problem

Had some serious rusting going on with my exhaust pipes, so it was time to replace it with something fun.

I got the 16861 Magnaflow sedan exhaust (for my '05 g35 sedan), but while installing it I noticed that my muffler only has 2 prongs with rubber stops that the old muffler hung from. The magnaflow has 3. Not to mention the prong closest to the bumper goes straight up on my old muffler, and the magnaflow has two that go up and then out. Any ideas on how to hook this up? Do I need an extra part here?

Also, any tips on removing the rusted bolts on the exhaust pipe? I tried using a 13mm bolt extractor but it is too big and a 12mm bolt extractor seems too small.

You need an 03-04 muffler bracket which is obviously configured differently than the 05-06's. Best way to get rusted bolts is to cut them out. Even with the right sized extractor there's a chance they will fall apart rendering anything that's trying to grip the bolt head ineffective.

Awesome info. Thanks.

Do you know if the 03-04 muffler bracket is a straight forward, nut and bolt, replacement of my current one?

Yep a lot of the 05-06 folks have done it including myself when I got the Motordyne VQ exhaust. You should be able to order one from the Nissan/Infiniti dealer but you might check out other sites as well. I couldn't find one on Rockauto and IIRC when I bought mine from the dealer it was ~ $30.

Dumb question, should I be putting a gasket between the exhaust pipe and the pipe it hooks up to that comes from the catalytic converters?

If you're talking about the place where the Y-pipe connects to the mid-pipe then yes. IIRC the factory gaskets are metal but any properly sized gasket will work.
