2004 G35X Parked in storage for a year, replaced dead battery, car won't start.
SubscribeHey guys,
Have an 04 G35x that has been in storage for a year. Of course I forgot to disconnect the battery, so battery was dead. Replaced it with brand new battery, and when I did, the turn signals flashed twice as if I had remotely unlocked it (or locked it, can't remember which is indicated by 2 flashes).
However, car won't start, but curiously no power whatsoever. Dash icons, windows, headlights etc. So it's not the starter, or alternator. It's as if the cars anti theft has been engaged and has cut off all power to everything and the car needs a reset or something.
Any insight, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thx.

Did you break/damage the main fuse on the positive battery cable?Originally Posted by studio54

Use your multimeter to test

In case anyone else goes through this, this may serve as a reminder. I had an aftermarket remote start installed and apparently it needed to be reset or resynched. Process was relatively painless but if you didn't know it, would be impossible to figure out on your own. When you reconnect the battery, you have to switch the car off and on (without turning the ignition to start) 5 times in a row.
Most aftermarket remote starters can be programmed for any sequence but this seems to be an industry standard. I was curious so I looked up a bunch of videos on youtube and nearly all had the same combo of switching between of and on 5 times to reset the dang thing.

Luckily for me, I had the remote starter manual in the glove box with the car manual. When I reconnected the battery, the parking lights would flash on twice. All the electric functions would operate fine (windows, radio, internal lights etc. ) until I attempted to start the car and then as I said, it wouldn't start and then everything went dead, nothing electric worked after that point until I disconnected/reconnected battery.Originally Posted by cswlightning

So I wanted to check car owner's manual troubleshooting section to see if there's anything referencing the parking lights double flash and what that means(nothing of course), but when I checked the remote start owner's manual troubleshooting section they had a whole list of light combinations, one of them was the one I experienced and penciled next to it was this sequence.
Tried it. Worked. Relief beyond measure.
If I had to tow the car to either a dealer or mechanic to get this looked at, who knows how much I would have been suckered into paying to fix the "problem".
"Oh yeah, looks like you need a new Johnson rod, it's going be about $600". 😲

It's in the FSM under the Body/Locks/Security section somewhere with the NATS stuff.Originally Posted by cswlightning

There will also be the DTC P1610 when the ECM is put into lock mode.
The proper procedure for clearing lockout mode is to turn the key to ON, wait 5 seconds, OFF, wait 5 seconds, ON, wait 5 seconds, OFF, wait 5 seconds, ON, wait 5 seconds, OFF, wait 5 seconds.
Basically 3 cycles of ON/OFF, then you can start the vehicle.
