audio questions
I would like to replace the sub in my sedan and I have some questions. 1st - would replacing the sub without replacing the other amp/speakers give me better sound or would that drown out the other speakers? 2nd - would the JL P180.2 link be a good amp to power 1 or 2 subs that would provide nice bass? 3rd - what would be some good "inexpensive" subs to use and in what configuration? Like what type of enclosure, 2 ohm or 4 ohm setup? Or what about just getting the Infinity Basslink...is that enough to make a really big difference?
TIA

Re: audio questions
1. adding an amp and a sub will not drown out the other speakers unless you boost the base up with a base boost adjustment/controller.
2. the JBL amps are OK. they don't have a subsonic filter (a crossover that keeps ultra low frequencies, usually 25 to 30 hz or less from getting to the sub) so you would have to go with a sealed box for the sub(s) for fear of "bottoming out" your sub. If you want to go ported, you'll have to get an amp with a subsonic filter. Just stick with one sub, either a 10 or a 12, which should be more than enough and the enclosure won't take up half your trunk.
3. sealed box will give you tighter more accurate bass (sq: sound quality). A ported box will give you a louder, more boomy sound, which some people like (spl: sound pressure level). The ported box will usually be bigger and take up more space.
4. Inexpensive but good sub: JL W0 series. Good quality, not too expensive, and good sound.
5. Basslink has 1 10" woofer and 1 10" passive radiator. Never heard one in person but it is a good, economic way to add bass to any system. It just depends on how much bass you want. If you just want some more lower end, you'll be fine with one of these. If you really want to feel it, go with something else. ($200 on ebay for a Basslink)
Hope this helps. A little more bass makes the whole system sound better.
