Question underhood noise at first takeoff.

05 5AT...

I have noticed that after you start the car, put it in gear and start rolling that there is a vibration that comes from under the hood that is felt in the floorboard and/or pedals. Barely audible, and mostly felt. My wife is going nuts thinking her brand new car is broken, and I have been searching the forums for an answer to her madness. I, myself, am leaning towards a pump or vacuum actuator of some such energizing or ABS system doing something. This happens only once at the intial roll off and that's it, until you start the car again and do the same thing. Just once and barely there, but you can't ignore it once you feel it.

Wink

ABS self-test. Have your wife read the owners manual. It`s covered there.

I've read it twice, looking for other things...she's not even cracked it open yet. figures eh?

I'll glance thru it again and make sure this is what we/she is feeling.

Thanks, yall.

Very likely the ABS initializing-usually around 7-10 MPH. When you get to my age it is a lot harder to hear, though. Sometimes I feel it and sometimes I hear it and usually I don't notice it at all. I'm more likely to find it if the radio is off and I am slowly accelerating.

Enjoy the car!

Its ABS, and not related to rpm but speed. It charges or test itself at 7mph and as a result you hear the noise.

Thanks for the relief!

I've experienced the same thing, too and always under the exact same circumstance. I hadn't read the manual carefully enough, evidently. This is a great forum! Thanks so much for the peace of mind. Much appreciated.

Andy
