03 vs 05

Hey guys I am going to purchase a 05g35 sedan. Just wanted to know how much faster is the 05 then the 03 stock for stock, both automatics. Are the 05's heavier then the 03'S? Why is 05 better? What gains does it have?
Thanks

You don't get cheated in the horsepower department anymore

dude, you are one of the few who actually do think before they see the catalog about the 05 lol...well..the real difference wouldn't be much..since it is more of horsepower..(peak horsepower btw) and no one knows how does the new curve looks like. I wouldn't expect any difference in 0 - 60 time or only slight difference in quarter miles time

cheers

I would expect that all things being equal, size weight, displacement (aka same engine) that more torque and HP would tend to have better times!! The torque number would suggest better 0-60 times than the additional hp. If you develop 10 more ft pounds of torque in the same rpm range, you would get better times..

e.g., The 35th anniversay 350z has 260 torque and 300 hp while the older model had 274 torque and 287 hp. The recent magazine test said it was actually slower by a couple of tenths of a second in the 0-60 test compared to the older model with more torque and less HP. They did also mention that the new z probably has a higher top end and might do better in an actual race on a track than the older model.

The 05 G35 sedan receives a restyled exterior including hood, trunk, bumpers, headlight lenses, and dual circle taillights. Sedans receive a redesigned instrument panel, new console, and an increase to 280 horsepower/270 torque. The G35 Sedan with 6-speed manual transmission receive a boost to 298 horsepower/no change in torque.

No increase in weight. Although no tests are out yet I would say the 05 is a faster car, but not but much.

I think the speed differences are negligible. The real improvements, IMO, are in the interior. Use of real aluminum (if you don't want wood), improved shifter area(5AT has a boot), ***** on the fan and radio controls, and a few other small items made me get the 05 over the 04.

There are definite improvements on '05 but not that much.
Rumor was, that older sedan specs were skewed to promote the coupe.

The 05 with premium has the smart key now, where you dont have to put it in the ignition, just turn the ignition while the key is inside the car. Also a power steering wheel that lifts up and away from the driver when the car is shut off for easier exit. It has memory like the seat also that saves to the key. I also think the exhaust sounds a little deeper on the 05.

The 2005 AT Sedan, even with its weight gain, has a better horsepower/weight ratio than the 03.

HP/Peformance differences are minimal, if any. The real difference are the minor interior upgrades, plus the new front grill and rear end. Biggest benefit might be the 05 sport package with 18" tires if you care about that sort of thing

Peformance wise seems to be even. No out and out definite conclusion on that one. Exterior and interior were revised somewhat. I dont think you can go wrong either way.

Not to start a flame war but...

The Auto 05 got 20 more hp and 10 ft lbs of torque more...
The 6 MT 05 got 38 more hp...

Its interesting that many claim there is no difference in performance with the 2005's and yet in other sections of this site you see many spending 1000's on mods that do not even add half of these increases.

Just food for thought.
